Reunited and It Feels so Good

Winter break means one thing: hometown reunions

Reunited and It Feels so Good

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and I don't mean because of the gifts! Winter break is almost as good as summer break because you're back in action with your hometown friends. There are several reasons why your time with your old pals will always reign superior to your new college friendships, and here's why:

Nothing beats that moment you see each other for the first time.
And you act like you haven't seen each other in years... it's been four months, people.

At home, it is perfectly acceptable to spend 24/7 with your friends.
Basically, you alternate houses every other day or so to give your parents a break. At school, it is more difficult to pull this off. You might even feel like your friends are more manageable in small doses, but not at home. You never have to feel like this:

Who can blame you? You have so much to catch up on!
You grew up together, telling each other everything - every moment of every day. You've been separated far too long so it's time to start catching everyone up on every detail of your life, starting with your first day of school breakfast and ending with your potential relationship. Seriously, you get very in depth with your secrets and daily routines.

They've got your back, no matter what.
Sometimes you have a downright terrible semester, and you need your friends to have your back and tell you it's going to be ok. No one does that better than your hometown buddies. And they'll bring the champagne.

There's no need to impress.
And you know what that means: pajamas all day, every day. You can wear whatever you want, whenever you want, and they will be right alongside of you wearing the most ridiculously comfortable get up.

Netflix is a verb, and your friend group made up the definition.
"Gossip Girl," "One Tree Hill," '90210," OH MY! Time to throwback to your favorite high school Netflix binges and even introduce your old friends to a show or movie you discovered while procrastinating during finals week. They won't judge you, no no no, they'll support you through it.

They understand that free time was created for free fun.
If anyone gets that you're a baller on a budget, it's your friends from home; they watched you grow from your bracelet making business to babysitting gigs to your first real job. They totally understand the importance of saving your fun funds for a rainy day. They'll help you find the fun, free activities to get into in your hometown.

Your parents already love them... and treat them like their own.
No awkward introductions, potential conflicts of interests, in fact, your friends probably already have a key to your house (or know where the spare key is hidden) and will be waiting for you on the couch when you get home. *Your parents are actually convinced that your friends think they're part of the family*

And last, but most certainly not least...

Throwback Dance Parties
Nothing beats Summer hits of the '90s and your best childhood friends. Am I right or am I right?

So finish the semester strong, pack up, get excited - you're going home for the holidays and you know who's waiting for you... no matter what it is that you need this break: a hug, a cry, a laugh, a Netflix binge, anything goes with your hometown heroes.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
