Eight years have passed since we last got a glimpse into the life of the small New England town of Stars Hollow. After its final season, "Gilmore Girls" viewers were left wondering what came from Lorelai and Luke's on again off again relationship, how Rory's political journalism career turned out, and what happened to the plethora of other Stars Hollow citizens. Many times over the past eight years, rumors of a reunion or a movie have surfaced, but new talk of a brief revival season is more promising than ever.
Supposedly, Netflix has its eye on "Gilmore Girls" and is interested in a revival to tie up loose ends. The revival would be four 90 minute episodes, instead of many hour-long episodes as viewers were used to in the past. According to hollywoodreporter.com, Netflix is reaching out to the original director of the show as well as the actresses who played Rory and Lorelai, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham. Scott Patterson, who played Luke Danes, has also voiced his support of the revival and confirmed the possibility of it in a tweet. Sadly, some cast members will be unable to return. It is rumored that Melissa McCarthy, who played Sookie on the show, will not be returning. Also, Edward Herrmann, who played Richard Gilmore, passed away in 2014.
Personally, I hope these rumors are the real thing and that we get to see Stars Hollow brought to life once again, even if it's just for a few episodes. I know I'm not the only one who wants to see how Luke's diner is doing or to see what strange festivals Taylor has started in town. Maybe Rory even has a new man in her life, after the final season ending with her rejecting Logan's marriage proposal. Insight into Paris' life eight years later would be interesting as well; did she choose correctly between med and law school, and is she still with Doyle? Also, how are Lane and Zack and their twins doing? I would love to know what's new with Kirk, Ms. Patty, Babbette, Hep Alien, Dean, Jess, Christopher, April, and Michel in current times. With such a large and diverse group of characters, "Gilmore Girls" will have plenty of material for four new episodes.
Like many other "Gilmore" fans, I am excited over the possibility of more Friday night dinners, extravagant pizza and movie nights, and more of Luke's coffee. So, so much coffee.
