On May 15, 2007, people cried and had to say goodbye to Stars Hollow and the Gilmores. This was day that the final episode, "Bon Voyage," of the seven-season series aired. But after more than eight years, Nefltix has announced that Star Hollows will once again see life.
The online streaming company has been working alongside Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show's original creator, to create at least four new 90-minute episodes to be released hopefully sometime this year. No exact date has been announced, so we are all just crossing our fingers hoping that the Gilmores will be there for binge-watching this summer. Of course, the four-episode revival will not be exactly the same as the original, but the rumor on the street is that it is going to try.
The biggest shocker to "Gilmore Girls" fans is that Melissa McCarthy, Sookie, was not invited back for the revival. So, that is one well-loved character whose life after the finale will probably still remain a mystery. It is those lives after that are what fans are so excited about, considering the series ended with Rory turning down Logan's marriage proposal and Lorelai was still single. Is there a rekindling of either character's romances on the horizons? Well, I hope so. I know that I could not believe that she said no. I loved Season 7 Logan and I totally thought he and Rory were right for each other. Hopefully, sufficient time has passed and they could still be in love and, eventually, engaged or married!!! Palladino has confirmed that Rory will be "single," but who knows what will happen?
Well, we know that, no matter what, Logan will, at least, be in the revival in some capacity. On February 4, Matt Czuchry confirmed that he would be returning to his role as Logan Huntzberger in the revival. Amy Palladino told TVline.com, "Our plan is to get as many of [Rory’s] lovely men back as possible." So far Matt is confirmed, Milo Ventimiglia (Jess) is posting cryptic tweets about whether or not he will be returning, and there is not much news on whether or not Jared Padalecki will return as Dean Forester.
In any case, we know that the Gilmore girls, Rory (Alexis Bledel), Lorelai (Lauren Graham), and Emily (Kelly Bishop), will definitely be prominently featured in the revival. Other fan favorites confirmed to be returning are Scott Patterson (Luke), Keiko Agena (Lane), Sean Gunn (Kirk), and Yanic Truesdale (Michel).
A tribute to the late Edward Herrmann is also strongly rumored. Kelly Bishop put it so poetically in her interview with TVline.com: "[Richard] is certainly a presence, especially in that first script. And Ed's probably going to be hovering around the set a bit and watching over us. I really do believe that. Because he really loved the show."
For now, we can all keep re-watching the first seven seasons over and over again on Netflix in sheer unbridled anticipation for the revival. I do not know about anyone else, but I am beyond excited to escape to Stars Hollow again.
