Why Retirement Will Actually Be Awesome

Sure, there is plenty of time between now and then, but who doesn't love ugly sweaters and playing cards?

Why Retirement Will Actually Be Awesome

Let’s face it; we are only students, yet to have experienced the workforce at full speed. With that said, you can’t tell me that you haven’t thought of what it will be like to be retired some day. Granted we all must labor away diligently beforehand in order to one day enjoy a pleasant retirement. Maybe these bonuses will motivate you to get the job done.

  • Two words: destination home. Who knows? Maybe you’ll even be able to afford your own island.
  • Golf and country clubbing. Okay I know this is not what it’s all about, but it would be nice to sip cocktails by the pool all day. In 70 SPF and a visor to prevent wrinkles of course…
  • You don’t need to give a damn what you wear or how you style your hair because you’re probably married or have given up. Odds are, no one is judging you on looks at this point.
  • You can spend your day baking for your grand kids or reading a book for pleasure, not because you’re forced to.
  • It is finally acceptable to be lazy, but if you aren’t then more power to ya!
  • You’re allowed to have an abundance of cute pets to keep you company.
  • You’re probably much wiser than you were 20 years ago, so you can laugh at the chaotic young parents chasing after their children while you’re just chillin’ on a park bench.
  • You have time for book club, or you can play bridge, gin or cribbage with your homies for hours on end.
  • You have an abundance of delicious recipes saved up from over the years, and you actually have the time to make some of them.
  • You get to spoil your grand kids for the hell of it, and it’s fun to play the good guy after all that your own children have put you through.
  • So. Much. Free time.
  • No one can be mad at you if you’re late, and you can hire a driving service if you’re really feeling luxurious without feeling harsh judgment from others.
  • You’re not expected to keep up on the pointless lingo the kids are using these days.
  • It’s not embarrassing if you don’t know what color Kylie Jenner’s hair is or if you haven’t heard about the newest actress-turned-pop star.
  • You can use your “bad hips” as an excuse to get out of anything.
  • You can wear ugly sweaters whenever you want.
  • “No Shave November” is a year round holiday.
  • No one judges you for collecting weird crap.
  • Deadlines are a thing of the past.
  • You can splurge on random things because you are probably not worrying about loans, and you’re done paying for your children’s pricey schooling.
  • You intimidate basically everyone because you’re old, and you know better.
  • You get to be the cool old dude telling hilarious stories from “back in the day.”

Granted, this is a list of predictions and dreams formulated by a 20-year-old; therefore, it is highly optimistic and prematurely hopeful. I also know that the years in between now and retirement will probably be some of the best of my life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
