People always say that money doesn't buy happiness. People who judge others for shopping when they are sad are just jealous that they can't figure out how it works. For those of us that use retail therapy as a real therapy way of dealing with our issues, regardless if we have money or not that day, we definitely know how to do it right.
Something happens in your life, you become consumed with some type of emotion and your mind filled with these constant thoughts. You decide to get in the car and go for a drive.... you end up in the closest shopping center and wander yourself into the store.
You start somewhere and soon your thoughts about the items you hold in your hand, start filling your mind and taking over.
"Where could I hang this super cute tapestry?'' "What could I wear this sexy dress to?" "Hmmm, these shoes are adorable, do I need them though? I guess they would go with that..." ETC ETC ETC.
These thoughts fill your mind and you become wrapped up in what you are looking at or what you are looking for, and suddenly those other problems start to fade away.
Sometimes depending on the issue at hand, it might take multiple store, hours, multiple times of trying different outfits on, or even more money than you wanted to spend. But eventually everything starts to fade and those other problems don't seen too big anymore.
Sometimes shopping helps to just clear your head too. For people like myself with anxiety and constant thoughts, sometimes getting out of the environment that we were in when the thoughts started and going out to someplace new and distracting, such as a shopping center, Helps us.
You don't need money in order for retail therapy to work either. Sometimes going and looking or going and trying things on and never buying but remember that you like it enough to come back later to get it when you do have money, is still enough to help change your thought process.
Don't judge those people for their retail therapy way of dealing with their problems. Have you tried it? Have you really tried it?
