Starbucks has announced that they are potentially going to start using ice cubes made of coffee instead of water. In light of this news, people have been saying "I don't know why Starbucks hasn't caught on to this sooner", or "Small town coffee shops do it". Well, it's so they can make more money off of you. It's part of their business, and the reason they're worth so much money.
The less coffee they ACTUALLY USE saves them a s**t ton of money. Do you like Caramel Macchiatos? Prime example. Congratulations you just bought yourself a $5 cup of hot milk with a half shot of coffee in it. As if that wasn't a good enough example, they increase the price of their coffee by pound anyway, so you're already paying more for a cup of just coffee.
Now I like Starbucks just as much as any other college girl, but get real. It's not because they're "not smart enough" to figure it out. They're smart enough. They know about it. They also know that continuing the same practice as they have since they opened, by giving you actual ice cubes in your half ice, half coffee drink anyway will work for them. Meaning they'll still be a multi-billion dollar corporation tomorrow, just like they were today, and yesterday.
If anything, this will actually work out worse in the customers' favor than you think. Due to Starbs already increasing their prices over the last year, if they begin to use coffee cubes, prices will most likely be upped more due to the influx in coffee usage. Or, it won't be automatic. You'll have to ask for it, and they'll upcharge you to have it.
And now, you're probably a little irritated, because, in your opinion, they shouldn't be able to do this because you're entitled to what you pay for. But here's the big twist: Starbucks can do this. And they will. Because they know that no matter how many people say "Boycott Starbucks" or something of the such, there will still be the people who buy their same $5 cup of coffee and $4 terribly fattening, sodium ridden "healthy" breakfast sandwich (another story) every single day. Not even putting a damper on their sales.
TL;DR, Starbucks does not care about your ice cubes.
