Growing up, I always had this itch is learn more and more history. It had always interested me and excited me. No matter if the teacher was good or bad, I was so happy to get to history class. However, not everyone enjoys my excitement for the subject at hand. Most people I talk too say that it's probably one of the most boring classes there is. I am here to try and prove you negative thinkers wrong.
Right before I went to college, no one understood why I wanted to major in history. Most thought I wanted to so that I could teach; they were definitely wrong. There is so much more to history than just teaching a class full of children. The sad thing is, only the people studying this subject understand that fact. I already stated that I do not want to teach. I want to do something so much more for my life. Some do not realize that history is actually a really good base for law. Some will go to law school after obtaining their bachelor's.
History is also a base for so many more cool things out there. You can go and get a master's in archival science,European studies, archaeology, etc. People can work for national archives, museums, college archives, etc. There are so many possibilities out there for people who love history.
When people ask me why I love it so much, I always tell them the same thing: the great thing about pursuing a historic career is that a person can learn something new everyday. You may think you know something about a certain topic but, there's always something that pops up that surprises everyone. I mean we're revealing new bits of history every single day. I see it as if history lovers weren't around then no one would have a clue how we got where we are.
I believe that us history lovers deserve a little more respect. I understand that it's not the most popular subject but we love it. I mean I find math and science to be devastatingly boring but I do not judge those who want to pursue it. Everyone has their likes and dislikes of things in life. All I can say is yes I am a history nerd and I LOVE IT! Loving this subject is one of the best gifts I have received in my young life.
