#RepealThe19th? How About No

It hasn't even been 100 years since women fought and won the right to vote.

If you hadn't already heard about, it there's a hashtag floating around on twitter #RepealThe19th. By 19th, it means the 19th amendment. In case you slept through your history classes, the 19th amendment is what gave women the right to vote. This was started by Trump supporters and trolls when the map below was released.

It was part of an article by Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight that looked at voting patterns. Another map in his article showed that Clinton would win by a landslide if only women voted.

Remember, I said it was started by trolls but for the most part it's not the trolls that have given it a rise in popularity. I have been watching the hashtag for a couple days now and majority of the tweets that I have seen are not the trolls. The majority of the tweets are women who are providing reasons why it should not happen and expressing their anger over the fact that it was said but also insulting those that said it. The Washington Post also recently wrote an article that supports this. There are, of course, #RepealThe19th tweets that are genuine (as well as the trolls) and one of the most disturbing thing about that is, it's not just men.

Ladies, we haven't even had the right to vote for 100 years yet! How can you so casually talk about throwing that away just so that a man could win the presidency? Let's forget for second what this man wants to do with some of our other rights. This was not a right we were just given or born with it; women fought for it. There was a long, hard, uphill battle that was fought so you could have this right that you want to throw away. I could write a whole second article about the suffrage movement. Think about that for a minute before we move on, maybe even look up the suffrage movement and educate yourselves.

Let's go back to talking about Trump. He is uneducated when it comes to women's health. He proved that in the third debate when he "discussed" abortion. Before that when discussing abortion he said that “there has to be some type of punishment” for women who choose to have an abortion. He would love to see Roe v Wade reversed. Next is the tape that was released and dubbed "locker room talk" on top of his repeated insulating of women which is just inexcusable and the fact that a man who has repeatedly degraded women could be the next President of the Untied States is horrifying. It teaches our young boys that it's okay to be vulgar and treat women the way that Trump has and still does. It teaches young girls that when they encounter this kind of behavior that they should just put up with it and that they do not deserve to be treated with respect.

To wrap this up, ladies, go out and VOTE! Women before us fought so hard so that we can vote, don't take it for granted! And educate yourselves. Not just on who the candidates are but on what the women before us have gone through and done to get us to where we are today.

And Mr. Trump, I only have one thing to say to you: No uterus, no opinion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
