If you are a recent college graduate and are feeling the pain of having to pay loans, and if you are trying to live on your own rather than share a house or apartment with a bunch of people, then this article is for you. I am all of the above.
As the time of my move-out date fast approaches, I cannot help but panic a little because my luck in finding a suitable apartment in Seattle is hopelessly pathetic.
Out of curiosity I have researched what my budget would get me in different states. Granted all of these places have different minimum wages and annual earnings. But I thought it was interesting to see how inexpensive some places can be! Should I move? Probably. But I won't, at least for awhile.
1. Seattle Studio
About 150 square feet and $615 in rent, not including utilities or the fact that if you drive you have to pay $170 a month for parking. And yes, this is the extent of what the kitchen looks like.
2. New York, Westbury
For $500 this could be yours! Oh, wait until you see the bathroom...
3. Savannah, Georgia
So, for $718 I could rent my own house.
4. Nebraska
This house is just $575!! Once again, I could rent my own home here. Sigh.
5. Great Falls, Montana
This apartment is $645! I don't think I need to explain how beautiful it is.
Seattle, even though you're crazy expensive, I love you. I love your coffee shops, Space Needle, amazing restaurants, Pikes Place and all your rainy days. So I will settle for the tiny apartment for now.
