If someone asks you to describe 2020 in just two words what would they be? The first thing that comes to my mind is a lockdown. (And it makes me shiver...).
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our everyday life. It became dangerous to be surrounded by people. Governments from all over the world asked their citizens to stay home. People have either lost their jobs or worked remotely (the majority still do). While some land-based industries needed to stay active even during the crisis. And it all happened too fast.
At the beginning of 2021, countries are looking for ways to recover their economies. And many sectors are slowly getting better but under the veil of uncertainty. Nobody knows what the course of the virus will be, and everyone is hoping we'll get our old lives back soon.
Working from Home? Yes, It Is Possible
Before 2020 shook us like an earthquake, people were just fine. They went to work, attended meetings, had day-to-day interactions with their co-workers. Working remotely was reserved for the quirky ones, mouse potatoes, programmers, designers, not for 'regular' people. For the majority of us, it did not seem possible we could get any work done if we are not in our offices.
But, it is. The previous year has proven many businesses can function even if their employees are not in the same place. In fact, it turned out to cut down many office expenses and supply needs.
Also, it can actually get very comfy.
The Current Situation
After almost a year of the crisis, experiences vary. Some can't wait to get back to their offices (they even moan about missing their annoying coworker). While others find their old job habits outdated and even think about making big career changes.
Statistics show 6 in 10 people in the US are willing to change their careers. In Sweden, 7 in 10 IT specialists seek new job opportunities, while in the UK finance industry, 4 in 10 employees are thinking about moving jobs. Big numbers.
Also, we should not stay blind to those who lost their jobs in 2020. What does the future hold for them? Is there a possibility of getting those jobs back, and if yes, when?
The Predictions
Before 2020, for those choosing a career path, only the sky was the limit. But in 2020, all we knew were limitations. Many sectors faced severe damages. However, the new year came with hope, so some professions will (most likely) come out from this crisis like winners. Believe it or not, those are:
- Waiters, bartenders, and kitchen staff
- Barbers and hairdressers
- Constructors and construction workers
- Dentists
The crisis attacked small businesses seriously, but they can also expect a recovery. We can call them - the survivors.
On the other hand, entertainment sectors, tourism, art, and childcare will be those that will struggle the most.
The Most Appealing Jobs in 2021
In the last twelve months, people had a lot of time to think about their life choices. Many have come to the conclusion they want change. And it seems we will see more and more people online.
Starting from scratch is not easy, but it surely can be pretty exciting. To make the best out of the remote era that is unfolding before us, in addition to programming and developer positions, these are the jobs that seem to be very appealing for 2021.
Digital Marketing Professionals
One of the things business owners must think about is their online presence. Companies are moving to the digital field, so they need a professional, such as a digital marketing specialist.
Those are the people working on online platforms dedicated to making the best brand promotions and creative ideas. The ones that make that Instagram page look really special to you. But, as a digital marketing specialist, you will have to be familiar with the SEO rules, social media, and Google ads.iGaming Live Dealer
It looks like we're not going to Vegas any time soon, so many people are turning to online casinos. The reputable ones offer customers to play with a real-life person.
Becoming a live dealer is an entrance to a quite exciting world. Just as in brick-and-mortar venues, this position means you are a croupier specialized in online gambling.
Being professional, outgoing, and speaking English fluently is usually a must-have for this position since a dealer communicates with players, takes bets, and reposts the results. Only the best live dealers can bring out the same experience to players as in regular casino venues.
The Need for Coaches
The previous year was a tremendous struggle. Most of us were facing professional, emotional, and financial challenges. People are looking for ways to recover, and help from different coaches is something we all need.
You can consider becoming a life coach, fitness coach, career coordinator, or business coach. Not only you will help others, but you can learn a lot about yourself. It pays well too.
Digital Creators
The need for digital creators grew 49% in 2020. If you are a creative person and love to write, you can become a content writer, blogger, even a podcaster or content coordinator. So, yes, I am saying you can drink your favorite cup of coffee in the morning sun, have your cozy space, and be creative while writing about things you like (sounds like a movie, right?).
The pandemic hit us hard. And, yes, we found ourselves in the big financial and emotional turmoil, but let's make the best out of it and inspire others to strive. Let this be an opportunity to learn about ourselves.
Summary
"A lockdown." The perfect description of 2020 that gives us chills. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our everyday life, and primarily changed the way we work. We saw many industries suffering a major downfall. Some shut down completely, some can see the light at the end of the tunnel, while some actually surge. The last mostly applies to the digital world. We did enter the remote era, and this is how we can get the most out of it.
