Reminiscing On The Past

Remember when you were younger and you used to look at college students and think, "Wow, I can not wait to be an adult." WRONG! Now that we are in college and "adulting," we realize we do not have our lives together one bit. We struggle to wake up in the morning and get to class, and if we do get to class we are lucky if we don't look like a homeless person who just crawled out of a dumpster.

I remember being so excited to grow up because I would be able to do all sorts of things that I couldn't do when I was little. It all starts with getting your permit, rushing to be 15 and not realizing what we were leaving behind. Quickly after comes 16, getting your license, hopefully a car and feeling a whole new sense of independence. That feeling of being able to go anywhere and on your own time.

After the excitement of having your driver's license wears off, then comes the big 18. The time of being completely legally allowed to be independent. Your parents can kick you out, so play your cards right, am I right. At this point the excitement sets in of heading off to college and becoming your own person. Some may not go off to continue their education though, some may go other paths which can be equally exciting.

Once you get into your first couple years of college you realize at this point that you really don't have yourself together. You get fat, you go to class, and you probably cry more than you should. It's okay, it's normal, there could be worse things happening to you, right? All you are doing now is sitting around and waiting to turn 21 so you can legally do all the things you have already been doing.

But then what? You're 21, you are legally allowed to do everything you always looked forward to. But you look back on how simple things used to be before all the hoopla of growing up happened. Do you ever wish you could just turn back time for awhile and take things slower? Enjoy the times when your mom had to drive you to practice, and your dad gave you hell on not dating until you were 30.

Part of life is growing up, but sometimes it is about looking back and wishing it didn't go by too fast. Now all we can do is sit here, fat and in debt, and look back on the times when things were simpler and we thought growing up was this ideal to be had. Enjoy now, because you are just going to get older and older and wish you were back in the days that you are currently living in.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
