Throughout the election season, I have done my best to keep my political views away from social media. In my personal opinion, politics have no place on Facebook.
But, I digress.
I found it impossible to remain silent this week.
I will not use this platform as an opportunity to try to educate anyone on facts. You can do that for yourself if you choose to find factual articles.
My hope is to make anyone who reads this reflect for a moment.
In the last week my timeline has been filled with nothing but hate. It has been truly painful to see so many people filled with such rage, but even worse to see the way some choose to handle it.
I have seen violence.
I have seen ignorance.
I have seen American flags on fire.
That last one is the one that baffles me the most.
In a time when everyone should be coming together, everyone seems to be drifting so far apart.
The only way to get to happiness is through positivity.
No matter who you voted for this election, we must sand together.
We must stand united.
United doesn't have to just mean politically. It means we stand together for a common cause. Right now, we need unity more than ever.
Every election is a chance for 50 percent of voters to be excited and the other 50 percent to be disappointed with the outcome. Even a landslide win isn't 90 percent to 10 percent.
Roughly half of all voters will be disappointed every four years. But what does that mean?
It does not mean violence and disrespecting the American flag.
It means coming together and working hard in the next four years to make sure our candidate wins.
But it also means to be prepared for losses.
We will not always win. We will not always be happy with the outcome
But we will always move forward. We must always stand together and push forward.
To anyone who did not vote and is now filled with anger: why?
Why did you believe your vote was so invaluable but now choose to be so public with your hate?
I urge you to please register to vote if you have not done so already and make sure you vote in every election.
The most important elections are the local ones. It is the local elections that directly impact the people directly above them in power and so on and so forth all the way up to choosing the people who will vote on behalf of our state.
To anyone who used their vote to write in Harambe, Harry Styles or any name of the sort, you do not get to complain about the outcome. You took the time to go to the polls or fill out an absentee ballot. You took that time and you wasted it.
Please, educate yourself enough to cast a real vote in four years.
I will not address either candidate.
I will not elaborate on any of my political beliefs on social media.
But I will continue to fight for unity within America.
I will stand up for those who are under verbal, mental or physical attack.
I will be united.
Will you?
