15 years after the worst terror attack on American soil is the first year that kids will learn about 9/11 as a historical event that they have not been alive for. 9/11 is becoming an event in history rather than an event that is fresh on our minds. It is becoming what Pearl Harbor became, a day of remembrance. Which obviously is a much needed day of remembrance. But it should still be a day that brings up raw emotion for the people we lost but also the strength we showed. There is a dwindling desire to prevent this type of attack again and on this date I want people to know I will never forget this date, I will never forget the pain in my soul that I still feel when I think of those victims.
This day transcends politics. It transcends race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. It was a day that adults look back and remember what they were doing when they learned that at 8:46 depraved terrorists would alter America forever. But to me someone, whose only memory of 9/11 was seeing my parents cry at the sights on the TV, 9/11 should be about the survivors stories, the affected families' stories, law enforcements' stories, and the stories of heroism, courage, love, and compassion that Americans witnessed on and after the days of 9/11.
So fifteen years later I want to send my condolences and all of my love to the all of the people affected.I am not thinking today of my usual schedules, routines, daily tasks, or even when my next Netflix show. I am just thinking about everything that day this day stands for; loss but also American strength, love, courage, and patriotism. I am thinking of the 2,996 people who died and their families and the countless amount of people physically and emotionally wounded on that day. My heart goes out to the firefighters, members of law enforcement, and their families. They are the reason why we had some sense of safety in the days after.
But through all of the grief and hurt people must have felt, their grief but also courage has provided me with strength and a belief that you may knock us down but we will get back and fight back a thousand times stronger. These people make me proud to be an American, to call this country my home. Your bravery, your heart, and your compassion in a time of utter chaos has shown me there is good in the world even if it seems like the world is filled with evil.
This day is about remembering those who were lost, praying for them and their families, but also realizing how far we as a country have come. We the great people of America, our great leader, George W, Bush, and our fabulous law enforcement and military built this country back up from our economy to the World Trade Center to our sense of safety. And this all happened because of the people of New York and the great people all across America. People sacrificed their lives on that day, the least we could do is leave a safer and better country for their children.
So in a time where many enemies seek to bring us down, I want them to know as George W. Bush. once said, " We will not waver, we will not tire, and we will not falter."
God Bless the United States of America and never forget the value of every single one of the 2,996 people who died. We will love and remember you always.
