THINGS NON-RELIGIOUS PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF HEARING...

Yes, we're tired of hearing "God bless you" or we're going to hell...

THINGS NON-RELIGIOUS PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF HEARING...
YOU DON'T SAY

Being non-religious in America is slowly progressing to be socially acceptable and common, in fact, 3.1% of Americans identify as atheists and 4.0% as agnostics. However, being non-religious isn't exactly well-liked or favorable in the U.S, as only 54% of Americans would vote for an atheist president and 50% of Americans find atheists "threatening". Despite atheism being more common now than ever in previous decades or centuries in America, it is still politically correct to say atheism is not acceptable to half of Americans, therefore not acceptable as a whole in the U.S.

Being that half of Americans are guarded and uneasy around the presence of atheist, simple conversations may turn to statements questioning or arguing us non-religious folks. I must admit, I love speaking or arguing about religion, and I find most of the questions asked towards me humorous! I can tell most comments made about my absence of religion is out of genuine curiosity, but a small amount of the time it just might be ridiculous or weird. This listicle will examine the ridiculous sayings/things said towards us non-religious people intentionally or unintentionally.

1. How do you have morals?

Well apparently, I missed the memo of reading a man-made book or set of principles to shape me into a decent human being - that I turned out to be.

2. Are you a Satanist?

Do you believe in Greek mythology? That's the answer.

3. Are you going to get married at church?

Hmm... I was actually planning to have mine at a cemetery.

4. Non-believers go to hell.

Well, that escalated quickly...

5. Do you believe God exists?

No one can ever truly know... those who know are permanently dead.

6. What do you think happens in the afterlife?

Probably not heaven or hell...

7. How do you believe in evolution? There are still monkeys though.

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to evolution than monkeys magically evolving into homo sapiens (humans) and some staying monkeys.

8. How could you not believe in a higher power? Who do you think created you?

The word "awesome" itself, and of course the universe with a dash of stardust.

9. Why do you celebrate Christmas if you're not religious?

Isn't Christmas originally Pagan? Yikes.

10. God bless you! (As a compliment, a good luck, or when sneezing)

Well, this is awkward...

With these being stated, please stop the ridiculous comments and thoughts against us, non-religious people. Being a religious person doesn't make anyone more moral or pious than a non-religious person. Non-religious people are not devil worshippers, rebels, or evil. We are normal human-beings like you. Being non-religious is a choice. I personally made my decision on being non-religious by researching and learning the creation and practices of various religions. Personally, I think it's one of the best decisions I made because I know I live freely without any book or principles dictating me or telling me how to be a "righteous" person. I am just simply being the best and moral human-being by my humanly instincts and free will. With that said, let's start to crush the misconceptions and fear with atheists, agnostics, etc. All derogatory comments made towards non-religious people may be caused by confusion or misconceptions.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
