If you are books/TV/movie junkie like I am, or even if you turn on the TV once a month and read for pleasure on when at the beach, then you too have thought that a character was written about you, one that you relate to so deeply that it's almost unreal and sort of changes your perspective on everything that happens to the character. I have related to so many in the past, and a few that affect me every day.
1. Anna, Frozen
Everyone loves the two sisters from Frozen, whether you find yourself relating to the quirky Anna or the misunderstood Elsa. I find that we share the same optimistic, eccentric, less-than-graceful personality traits that make her so relatable, probably not only to me but to millions of others. I knew we were one when watching Frozen for the first time, as she said the line "I'm awkward, you're gorgeous. Wait, what?" Ask anyone, very me.
2. Darlene, Roseanne
Anyone familiar with the sitcom Roseanne knows that the middle daughter, Darlene, is one of the most prominent characters in the show. Whenever I catch reruns, I find myself relating to Darlene more than any other character on the show. Some might say that's weird, because we neither look alike nor do we really behave in the same manner. However, Darlene's dry-yet-sick sense of humor and tendency to release sarcasm without warning are two qualities that I feel we share.
3. Jess, New Girl
The true definition of awkward, Jess has won your heart more than once if you've ever caught the Fox hit New Girl. She's full of quirky moments, but also takes pride in herself and has a lot of love to give, which is where I see myself in her. She likes being a weirdo, and so do I.
4. Bianca, The Duff
Another sarcastic genius, Bianca's straightforward, I-don't-care-what-others-think personality is the perfect example of the way I feel about society and its pressures. Sometimes you need to throw caution to the wind, put on your monster voice, and middle finger everyone who ever doubted you by loving yourself.
5. Elizabeth Bennett, Pride and Prejudice
As I dodge questions about boys, try to save money, and deal with a crazy family (albeit not as overbearing or hysterical as the Bennett's) I find myself as the 2016 Lizzie Bennett. All I want to do is read a book and prove that I'm a strong, independent woman.
6. Tris Prior, Divergent Series
I feel as though I channel my inner Tris Prior when I make decisions that could potentially change my life. Her bravery and willingness to do anything to protect those around her are admirable qualities that I feel everyone wants their inner-badass to have.
7. Olive Penderghast, Easy A
Who doesn't want to relate to the woman who has a great sense of humor, is strong and knows when to challenge society, while staying honest with herself. I know her entire facade is built on a lie and that a lot of her social life suffers from her actions, but in the end she's the funny girl-next-door who has all the same problems that everyone does and can keep herself grounded.
8. Pam Beesly, The Office
The receptionist everyone knows and loves, Pam Beesly is the quintessential combination of geeky and cute. She's lets her nerd run wild, and I think that is where she resonates most with me. People say that girls need to be overtly sexy or around-the-clock seductive to get the guy, and Pam changed that for everyone. So I will always love her and be thankful for the character.
