Rejection: It's Inevitable

It's not a goodbye, It's a See Ya Later.

Rejection: It's Inevitable

Goodbye is a funny word. Just like any 20-something, I have had my fair share of goodbyes and rejections of a wide assortment. It's never a good feeling when you set your mind to something and are told you're not right for the job or "it's not you it's me." (Although I tend to be the break-upper, not the break-upee, I hear this is common). Obviously, it doesn't propose an ideal situation, but it's what happens after the door closes that determines who you are and who you're going to be.

Your reaction to rejection is more defining that that interview you were stressing over. Often times people will tell you, "Get up and brush It off." This may be easier said than done, but in my opinion — it's the easy way out. I've always lived by the motto "I'm intimidated by the fear of being average," and just getting up after a fall is average, it's inevitable ... it's obvious. Everyone has to get up at some point to be a player in this game of life, so while that may be good advice, it's average, nothing special.

Rejection: transitive verb

1 a : to refuse to accept, consider, submit to, take for some purpose

b: to refuse to hear, receive, or admit: rebuff, repel

c: to refuse as a lover or spouse

Rejection means a lot of things to a lot of different people, but rejection to all of us is what we make of it. Don't be intimidated by the fear of being rejected, be intimidated by the fear of being average. Anyone that has ever been successful (whatever that means to you) has failed more than once and learned from those obstacles. It's not enough to just brush yourself off — push the norm, challenge yourself. Spend time thinking about what you can improve on, how you can use that experience to better yourself and give it another go. Failure is inevitable; it's your response to it that counts. Failure isn't an end, it's an opportunity. Don't miss out on a hell of a learning experience!

Disclaimer: dependent upon severity of rejection, it is acceptable to allot 1-4 days binging on ice-cream while watching Grey's and Scandal. After all, if Olivia Pope and Meredith Grey don't inspire you, you're missing something.

Regardless y'all; peace, love, power to the people and thumbs up to Rock and Roll. If I could inspire you with my words as well as the kid in that video, I would be a millionaire.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
