I swear every modern-day country song is exactly the same. It features something about a girl or boy they're in love with, some type of struggle, an upbeat pop sound and the same lyrics over and over again - I'm sick of it.

I'd catch myself listening to older country music; the one that told stories with its lyrics. But, I have found it again with modern country music!

Last year, I discovered Red Dirt music. Red Dirt is a sub-genre of country music that started in Texas and Oklahoma and has not been "Nashville-ized."

Basically, Red Dirt doesn't sound like a pop-star put on a pair of boots and barfed up a couple country words like "truck" or "dirt road."

Now, I'm not hating on anyone. There's country music that suites everyone's likes, but this modern-day country just isn't for me. Red Dirt focuses on telling stories. It tells the story of how country folks grew up: working hard, loving your home and figuring out who you are. Based in both Oklahoma and Texas, most of the songs are based in these two states. But no matter where you're from, you can find a love for this music.

Red Dirt is made by those exactly like us -- hard working, family oriented who want to spread a message with the music they sing. If you've ever been to an Aaron Watson, Cody Johnson or Turnpike Troubadours concert, they'll tell you that music should have meaning. It should allow you to recall memories and you should relate to its lyrics. Real country music does this and Red Dirt artists are bringing it back.

In order for you to truly appreciate the sub-genre, check out ten of my favorite Red Dirt songs:

"Ballad of a Southern Man" Whiskey Myers

Love the way you grew up? This song is sure to make you feel right back at home!

"Me and My Kind" Cody Johnson Band

This two-stepping tune will have you feeling as if you really broke that poor girl's heart!

"The Underdog" Aaron Watson

Fathers, you need to play this song for your sons.

"Carry On" Pat Green

This songs reminds us that everything will be okay, carry on!

"Buy Myself A Chance" Randy Rogers Band

Can this happen to me? "...Well if things don't work out by the next song, and you're looking for someone who can dance, I'll be right over there by the jukebox tryin' to buy myself a chance..." *Insert heart eyes emoji*

"7&7" Turnpike Troubadours

This is my favorite song ever. Turnpike will have you two-stepping and smiling to this hit! "... Well, I had no clue I'd be the boy who your momma warned you about..." Evan Felker, you sure are, sir!

"Dance Her Home" Cody Johnson

If you're looking for a new two-stepping song, this is for you! This upbeat song will have you dancing her home.

"In My Arms Instead" Randy Rogers Band

Seriously, Randy Rogers Band 😍. This song will hit you right in the feels. We all crave for someone, and Randy Rogers brings that feeling to life.

"Still Think About You" William Clark Green

You know that person who isn't good for you, but you miss them anyways? William Clark Green allows you to feel for that person. "Sorry I broke your heart in two, I still think about you..."

"She's Like Texas" Josh Abbott Band

This song hits you in the feels. It's about a man singing about his love, who reminds him of his other love, Texas.

I hope you'll enjoy Red Dirt and its deep meaning as much as me. These are just a few of my favorite artists, but there are a ton more. Check out this Red Dirt Playlist on Spotify! You won't regret it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
