Everyone spends the weeks before Spring Break planning out what they are packing, where they are going, or what parties they are attending, but it is rare that anyone plans how to get back in the groove of college life after a week with few cares or worries. This often leads to more stress than before you went on Spring Break. You should take some time to sit down and plan out how you will get used to going to classes and taking exams again.
Here are a few tips to help you with the struggle of reality after a week in paradise:
1) You should plan out what is going to be due and expected of you in each of your classes the first week back. This will eliminate the element of no sleep because you will have already set aside time for when you can get school work done and not have to pull an all-nighter studying or writing a 10-page essay. It is even more beneficial if you are able to get homework or studying done that will be due that first week back before you even go on Spring Break (hopefully you did this...). This actually makes you feel less worried, and much more relaxed to enjoy your vacation.
2) Get a lot of sleep the night before your first class. This is sure to help because more than likely you have been staying up until 4 a.m. partying and drinking so your body's system is going to need some time to replenish its energy. Without being caught up on your sleep and energy, you are sure to be falling asleep in your first class of the day whether it be at 8 a.m. or 11 a.m. This will also help you to focus during class to help get you back in the right mindset for learning and getting your work done properly.
3) Review information of your classes any time you have nothing to do over the break (hopefully you did this too...). This will keep the information you were learning fresh in your mind. You will be thankful for doing this when you are the first one asked a question by the teacher, or if your professor decides it would be fun to have a pop quiz the first day back. Even if neither of these things happens it will be beneficial in following along with the lecture or class notes for the day.
4) Find the motivation to get back in the swing of things. If you have no will to go back to school, then the week back will be even more miserable than already expected. You don't have to be motivated to learn; just find the motivation to drag yourself to class. You could focus on your dream of a 4.0 GPA or you could focus on seeing that really attractive person that sits near you in one of your classes. This motivation will ease the pain of returning to classes.
5) This is probably the most important tip: HAVE FUN ON SPRING BREAK!! If you are able to have fun, relieve all of your previous stress, and detoxify your mind from everything previously crowding it, then you are sure to feel much better about school when you return. Everyone needs to take a break from school and seriousness of school in order to keep progressing forward. If you don't have fun and relax, then you are going to burn yourself out.
If you are able to follow these tips you are sure to return from Spring Break back in the groove of things and prepared for the school work ahead. Spring Break may be one of the most exhilarating weeks of the year, but you must remember it does come to an end and school does inevitably return.
