An Inside Look In Being Recruitment Chair Of A Sorority

Summers almost over, so that means it's time to go back to school. But in the world of Greek Life it means time for fall recruitment, the most anticipated time during the year for your sorority.

For your sororities recruitment chair it's basically hell week. The recruitment chair is in charge of doing everything for your sororities recruitment. That means going to trainings, buying and crafting everything you'll possibly need during the week long event and also setting everything up. It's very stressful, but if you have awesome sorority sisters they'll help you out some.

As recruitment chair you get an inside look at all the PNM's (potential new members). It's your job to know who they are, and creep on all their social medias to get a feel for them. Maybe not all recruitment chairs do this but I do because I'm a creep lol. (:

Here are some things for a PNM to do and not do during recruitment:

1. If a sorority girl follows you on social media, follow her back.

If you know for a fact you want to be in a sorority and you've already signed up you should always follow your schools sorority recruitment accounts to get information on recruitment, and a feel for the sorority.

Also I cannot stress this enough but if a member of a sorority follows you than it is rude and disrespectful to not follow back especially when you know you are wanting to join a sorority. For me personally as a recruitment chair when I follow a girl that is signed up for recruitment and she does not follow me back then I get a bad impression of her because then I think that she thinks that she's better than everyone else.

Also even if you don't end up in that specific sorority with that girl, it's important to still follow back because you're going to be apart of greek life and girls need to have each others backs.

2. Do not talk sh*t on another sorority.

During recruitment sororities are trying to impress you because they want you to come to their sorority. It can be competitive so when you talk sh*t on another sorority it makes you look bad. If you don't like a specific sorority keep it to yourself and just cut them during recruitment

3. Be yourself.

I know it's hard to not put up a fake front during recruitment to try and impress people but you're technically acting and acting is a job. Because you were pretending to be someone you're not you could end up in a sorority that isn't the right fit for you and that would suck to have to continue pretending being someone you're not.

Even though recruitment can be stressful it's such a wonderful experience and SO much fun. I recommend every girl rush, and even if you decide last minute to not join a sorority at least you got to have the experience of recruitment.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
