Recap For The Year 2016

2016 is almost over, so I'm reflecting off my first semester of college and my holiday break of my somewhat "change"

It has been two weeks since I've been home from college, and the number one thing that I've been told is that I have changed a lot. There's something about that phrase that just brings a smile to my face and a giggle. It's not that I have changed, it's just that you are hearing my voice more and I'm just a little bit more expressive on things. With me being an introvert, I usually don't talk for a long period of time, so I guess people forget how my voice sounds? I don't know, but I just talk a little bit more than usual.

The winter break, in my opinion, is much needed. But my sleep schedule, there's not even a word to describe how bad it is. I pulled an all nighter to watch an award ceremony, the beauty of time difference, but it was worth it. I celebrated Christmas at my grandma's house and my house, which was nice to see my cousins again. Every time I see them though, I do feel a little bit weird because I still don't know how to interact with them, but that's just something that I'm slowly working on. My eating habits, they were already weird and my family, mostly my aunties, thought that college was going to change that, but sadly, college didn't change it that much. It made me value home cooked meals at times, but now I just love microwave dinner.

Christmas was fun despite the fact that I didn't really ask for much this year. I think as you get older, there are just less stuff that you want so the amount of presents under the Christmas tree just slowly decreases until most of the presents underneath there are for family members and baby cousins. I was happy that I got my own Sonic the Hedgehog. Build-A-Bear made a character that I had to beg and plead my mom to get for me. I got some gift cards, candy, a nice speech program for my computer for when I find the time to work on my stories, pajama pants and Just Dance 2017. I also wanted to get a Season's Greeting set from one of my favorite k-pop groups, but my limit was only one. So I settled on BTS, but next year, I'll get a different group.

The one thing that I will take advantage of is the long break. There are so many things I want to do, but if you are like me and are truly lazy, you just want to stay in bed all day and just play games on your computer, phone or any mobile device. It's fun eating at the restaurants that I can't go to when I'm at school because I miss their taste. It is nice catching up with my friends and seeing what's new with them. I did miss my homecoming for alumni, but it was on the day that I was coming home so I made a decision that sleeping was more important lol. There's always the spring where hopefully my old high school will have an event.

I miss being at home and I miss messing with my family 24/7. I will value this before I have to go back to school for another two months, and then it will be spring break. I hope everyone had an amazing holidays and Happy New Years!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
