7 Reasons You Need To Stop Being Petty

It's not cute.

If you're like me you've probably had the occasional petty thought. It could be something small like getting revenge for a time when someone wronged you, or it could be just a random thought you have on occasion. Regardless of the odd thought I have, I have never had the ability to be petty.

Maybe I'm too nice, or maybe it's something else preventing me from stooping to that level. Either way, I think there is way too much pettiness going around these days so here are a few reasons why everyone should try to stop being petty.

1. No one wins.

Despite what you might think, when you act petty towards someone you don't get any real satisfaction. You know, the kind of satisfaction that helps you sleep easier at night. Yeah, somehow that's just not how it works.

2. It leads to resentment.

Someone snubs you whether by accident or intentionally and you 'have' to be petty back to them and you end up kind of loathing each other.

3. It's not cute.

Somehow in our society, it has become almost a competition of who can be more petty. I find this especially prominent with girls, especially in their teens and early twenties. I'll be honest, I don't get it; doing something petty and bragging about how mean or vicious you are just doesn't make sense to me. It's unattractive any way you look at it.

4. It adds negativity to your life.

"Positive vibes only" has become a common phrase among the young adult generation but the sad thing is many of the people using this phrase are expecting positive vibes but sending out negative ones. That's just not how life works. You've got to put into it what you want to get out of it.

5. It gets in the way of real communication.

Communication is something of a challenge to me already, I can be passive aggressive at times because I struggle with putting my feelings out in the open. Pettiness is quite probably worse than passive aggression! It's disrespectful to your friend or significant other, or whoever it is you're failing to communicate with. Just say what you want to say.

6. It's immature.

I cannot stress this one enough, pettiness is a huge sign of immaturity. Many people claim to be adults, and yet will be as petty as they possibly can at the first opportunity. Ever heard of the high road? Or being gracious? Or even kind? I mean come on, is this really that hard of a concept to grasp? Plus it's pretty selfish, I mean think about it, you don't know what they're going through. The things they face day in and day out that may have caused whatever offense they committed against you. A mature person can think about this and move past whatever it was.

7. It's a waste of time and energy.

Last but certainly not least, it's a waste. A waste of time, and a waste of energy, both of which are precious commodities. So why waste them? I know I definitely am too busy and focused on trying to make myself a better person to try and hurt or be petty toward another person.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
