I was pretty ecstatic when I got my acceptance letter to the University of Washington. This was my dream school for however many years, and I sent my commitment probably two days after I got my letter. My first year of college was a great memory, for the most part. There were some obstacles, and struggles, but I knew I definitely picked the right school for my undergrad, and maybe some of these reasons will hopefully resonate with you, if you're attending right now, or if you're a high school student in hopes of attending the following school year.
1. The school is absolutely breathtaking.
I don't know about you, but UW is such a beautiful school. All the medieval style architecture, and the gargoyles surrounding them are a bonus to see when walking to classes. Yeah this school is huge, but the visuals make it all the better. This is true especially in the spring time, when all the cherry blossoms start to bloom, and you can see everyone sitting out on the quad, enjoying the view.
2. Academics are hard, but it's motivating.
I have to admit, I came into UW extremely cocky that I would ace all of my classes, considering how well I did back in high school. That was unfortunately not the case... but UW's academics definitely push you to work hard. My work ethic has improved extremely well from attending this school, making me more productive, and busy focusing on my life choices/goals. You might go through a couple bumps in the road, like doing poorly on a test, but making a comeback and studying your a** off definitely pays off in the future.
3. Everyone here is extremely social.
You may not see it on campus, as everyone might be stressed about exams/homework with the usual resting b**** face, but try attending a party/social gathering. Everyone here LOVES to have a good time, and you'll definitely make a ton of new friends without any problems.
4. We probably have the coolest library ever.
You probably already know which library I'm talking about, the hyped-up Harry Potter Library, or Suzzallo Library to be specific. This library not only has a Cafe, but probably the coolest reading room ever. I feel like I'm about to cast a spell when I'm studying there (jokes I'm hilarious I know).
5. Coffee shops. EVERYWHERE.
We have a coffee shop/cafe area in pretty much every building... which is the reason why people are managing to get to their classes in one piece without falling on the ground from exhaustion. If that doesn't impress you... then you're obviously not a pacific northwest kind of person.
