Reasons Why Texting Is Bad

Do not do it. Just do not. Really.

Nah, I am kidding, even though we all probably prefer to communicate our emotions and thoughts through a one on one conversation with a person, texting eventually becomes inevitable. The need to speak with somebody is already a natural human need. Whenever somebody is not quite physically accessible, one turns into the miracle that is texting with today’s technology, where you can send instantaneous messages across the world. However, there is one important downside to texting, which pretty much involves a bunch of problems. I am talking about the simple fact that texting is not conversing.

No Sound; No Tone

The eloquence of the human voice is a pleasant characteristic. Hearing somebody’s voice might make someone’s day, or it might ruin it all. Not to mention that, depending on the tone of the voice, a different message can be sent. Such thing is not available through texting. People cannot tell what kind of tone you are talking in. They might take something serious for granted, or might take a joke too serious. It eventually causes plenty of confusion; all of it since there is no sound in texting, other than phone chirps.

No Body Language

Simple: you are not talking to a person. You are just reading a person’s thoughts and ideas. There is no dynamic face and body you can relate the text to other than your mental image of that person (which is most likely a static image, unless you have got excellent imaginative skills). Regardless of what is said, there is always some sort of body language involved which helps interpret the message.

“Read” Overthinking

Nothing hurts more than being ditched; unless you are ditched through texting. If you sent an enthusiastic text, expecting a quick, happy reply (or maybe the complete opposite), nothing hurts more than “read” showing right below the message. If you are lucky, whoever you are texting has this feature disabled and you will only see “Delivered” or “Sent,” depending on what sort of canal you use.

Autocorrect

I hate you, autocorrect. Thank you for making my clear and simple “omw” message into an enthusiastic, Disney movie-like adventure that yells “On my way!”

Glitches and More

It is all technology; it is computers and small chips that allow us to communicate to each other through a screen. It is possible that somewhere on its journey the message got stuck, and it was never delivered, or it was heavily delayed. Compatibility had been an issue before, but it is weird to see any sort of strange text glitch today in which not all the message was sent.

Spying

The message travels to its destination. If such message is intercepted, somebody that you know or do not know might read your conversations. It involved a possible violation of privacy that is pretty much undetectable. Therefore, it is risky to share important information.

Evidence

Words come and go. Texts do not. Texts stay there forever. You can look at them anytime for as many times you want. Unless you would not care about this (and you probably do not think about it in the moment), you might want to reconsider the danger texting involves regarding privacy (and become a little paranoid).

There is nothing warmer than a cozy conversation with those you care about. Texting will never be better than conversing for these and many other reasons.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
