Reasons Why I'm a Kid at Heart

There are certain things I love about being a kid at heart, especially all of the other books I can read.

Sometimes being an adult is fun. You get to go grocery shopping and buy any kind of food you want, you can decorate your house (or dorm, whichever you live in) however, especially for holidays, and the feeling of independence is a wonderful feeling. Sometimes though, you can’t help but act like a kid. 90% of the time I talk to my mom on the phone because she’s like my best friend. Although I spend half my time readingHarry Potter, there are other reasons why I’m a kid at heart.

1. Disney movies are the best

Whatever mood I’m in, a Disney movie always makes me feel so much better. Whether I’m sad or angry, happy or stressed, Up or Beauty and the Beast put me at ease (also, I know The Hunger Games isn't a Disney movie, but I love them so much I decided to be Katniss).

2. I don’t like to party, I’d rather stay in for the night

One Saturday night I was in bed by eight o’clock, looking up cute Halloween decorations for my future house that I always day dream about. Outdoor blow up of Snoopy? Yes please!

3 I always reach for the impossible

No matter what the task is, whether it’s climbing the tallest tree or writing a fifteen page paper, I always create goals for myself that challenge me and make me a better person.

4. I still bake, even without my mom

Baking is so fun! I use to bake all of the time with my Auntie Mel and my cousin Hannah for every holiday. I love learning new recipes and decorating cookies for a holiday. Bring on the sugar!

5. I still try my best in everything I do

Just because I’m in college, doesn’t mean I slack and not give things 100%. Just like when I was in elementary school, I try my best and never put myself down for something that I didn’t do well in.

6. I love helping people

As we get older, we tend to not have as much time for the things we love, but one thing that I did as a kid was volunteer; for my church, local animal shelter, and my school. I still love helping out for local organizations.

7. I don't mind reading certain kids' books

I’m currently reading the Harry Potter series, and now that Netflix is creating A Series of Unfortunate Events into a show, I need to get start those. Also, whenever Cassandra Clare releases a new book, I have to read it, so I’ve been gathering the Magisterium series to read.

8. I own coloring books

Okay so I have “adult” coloring books, but I still like to color, it’s relaxing.

9. My friends and family mean the world to me

I grew up in a tight knit family, where everyone was open and honest, and we all loved each other so much. As a kid I was surrounded by family constantly, and I still am today.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
