Reasons Why I Am Not A Party Girl

As Told By Alessia Cara

During the summer of 2015, I fell in love with a song that soon blew up later. Alessia Cara’s biggest hit, “Here”, was released. I was ecstatic that someone finally released a song that was not about partying, drinking, and doing non-sensical things. There is literally nothing in this song that I do not agree with. I love how it reminds everyone that there are young people out here who do not like to party, drink, and do things with random people all the time. It is a perfect representation of how I am not the average party girl, and here is why:

1. I get claustrophobic

One of the main reasons why I hate going to parties or the club is because of the tight space with endless people. Massive crowds often attract a brawl or something that will result in me running for my life. They often make me nervous, because I feel like I can’t breathe and then so many other things go on through my head.

2. I have a different music taste

My taste in music is very different from the average person’s taste in music. I don’t have a set genre of music that I like. I enjoy all genres of music by different people. I love Adele, Beyoncé, Tamar Braxton, Ingrid Michaelson, Tori Kelly, etc. So imagine me at a party with limited breathable air playing the same type of music. The music that typically has no meaning to it, and me not enjoying myself. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good hype song, but to do that for five hours straight is going to annoy me. Cara described it best when she said “Over this music I don’t listen to and I don’t want to get with you”. Yes. I do not listen to this music; therefore, I do not want to be here.

3. I am not a social person

Everyone else at the parties is very social and outgoing, and then there’s me, the "antisocial pessimist". My circle of friends is so small that it is actually a dot. I am up for meeting new people, I just prefer to not meet them when no one is in their right mind or better yet, I probably will never see them again. I like to hang out with people who I know can handle themselves and not fall out and start throwing up everywhere.

4. Not everyone can handle that liquor

There will always be people that just go to the extreme and consume more than they can actually handle. When this happens, the majority of the time someone gets sick or someone does something idiotic and the party gets shut down. This often makes me mad, because all I wanted to do was have a good time and now it is ruined because someone wanted to take a risk and go to infinity and beyond.

I know I may sound like an old person who hates to have fun, but that is seriously not the case. I have been to a few parties that were actually fun. But as I get older, I realize that I am just not a party person because of said reasons. I like to have fun but with my dot of friends. I like to listen to music with a good message and just enjoy one another’s company. I have a different version of fun from everyone, and that is okay.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
