Ever since the pilot episode of "Friends" aired, fans around the world have build up the show's culture as one of the most sought after lifestyles there is. The reasons behind the massive following are obvious if you've ever seen the show, with its comedy, romance, life lessons, and fabulous cast. But it's the details of the show that really make viewers envious of how the group of friends lived, maybe even wishing they too could get away with wearing maternity pants to Thanksgiving dinner.
1. Best friends as neighbors
How amazing would it be to live riiiight across the hall from the people your closest in the world with. Knowing their door is always open if you need anything.
2. Chef as a friend
Some of us may have a pal that can bake a mean batch of brownies, but actually having a chef that can whip up a four course meal with ease, right within our inner circle of friends-now that sounds like heaven.
3. Living cheap in NYC
Now of course the gang on friends found a loop hole with the whole grandma's old apartment, therefore grandfathered in to cheaper than cheap rent, thing-but that doesn't mean we can't be jealous of how nice they had it. Plus, the girl's apartment was adorable and huge!
4. Having a semi-famous friend
You know, Joey Tribbiani who played Dr. Drake Ramoray. Imagine having an actor friend on a soap opera like Days of Our Lives, a perk or two may just roll your way.
5. Having a local hang out
Central Perk was the hole in the wall coffee shop that every viewer wished was real. Just knowing that one of your friends would either already be there or would be down to go is comforting in itself, not to mention that you get delicious oversized cups of coffee from it.
6. Friend that keeps you grounded
Phoebe might have been written off as the goofy hippy character to some, but her effortless way of not caring what anyone thought of her was amazing to me. For example, the episode that Joey decided to carry around his man purse and everyone judged him-Phoebe didn't, and that's pretty cool. She supported her friends however she could, and isn't that the type of person we all wish we had around?
7. Not just friends, but family
Life is not always easy, but with the right friends around, it doesn't have to be all too hard. The crew on the show were more than just friends, they were family. Yes some of them literally were related, but even the ones that weren't treated each other just the same. Being surrounded by a core group of people you love can make your home away from home seem that much more real-and that is the main reason I think viewers fell in love with the show.
We might not all have a handful of friends just like the show to entertain us, teach us, cook for us, and be there for us, but the relationships we have are just as special to us-and that's all that matters.
