Even if it isn't for a particularly long amount of time, everyone should consider going abroad for the summer. Although it can be pricey and a little daunting, I can whole heartedly say that it is completely worth it. Travel is the perfect opportunity to get away from the routine of your life at home, and experience an entirely different culture. Here are the five reasons to go abroad!

1. See a New City

Going abroad is the perfect opportunity to experience life in a new city. Not only will you be able to visit all the famous tourist attractions, but you will also get to see restaurants and other sights that aren’t as well known. Going abroad is a great excuse to travel and explore a new place.

2. Make New Friends

The friends you make while you’re abroad will last a lifetime. You will meet individuals from all over the world that have completely different backgrounds than you. Despite these differences, you will never forget the relationships you form with these people! Especially if you’re going away for a long period of time, you will really bond with the other individuals on the trip. Going abroad gives you the opportunity to create amazing friendships that you will cherish for years to come.

3. Break Out of Your Comfort Zone

Leaving your family and friends for a summer can be extremely frightening. Especially if you are traveling to a new place with people you have never met, it can be really nerve-racking. However, going abroad is the perfect chance to take a step outside your comfort zone and face your fears. After actually going through with something that truly scares you, everything else will seem less-intimidating in comparison.

4. Build Your Resume

Although this shouldn't be the main reason for choosing to go on a trip, it is true that going abroad is an amazing resume builder. Leaving your family for a summer can really show colleges how independent you are. In addition, experiencing a new culture and meeting people from all over the world is great material for any essay!

5. Make Memories that Will Last a Lifetime

Going abroad is a truly unforgettable experience. There will be hundreds of moments that you will look back on with a smile for years to come. From attempting to navigate the city streets to trying delicious new foods, it is a unique experience that will leave you with the most special and truly heartwarming memories.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
