The Reasons My Expectations Are Way Too High

I blame TV and Netflix for my unrealistic expectations, and it's all because of these fictional characters that I've somehow fallen in love with.

The Reasons My Expectations Are Way Too High

I always knew my television and Netflix addiction was something I needed to work on and now I realize it's somehow affecting my love life. It's because of the perfect couples on TV and the men that appear to be flawless. I'm not talking about hot guys so much, but instead guys that are romantic and passionate enough to make you believe in love if you didn't before. I have a horrible habit of comparing every boy's words and actions to that of the men I fall in love with on TV...men that don't even exist. I blame it on these perfect characters whose writers set the bar high.

Jim Halpert

There's no show quite like "The Office," and there's no man quite like Jim. He's a rare romantic who knew what he wanted from the beginning and never gave up, plus he's a dorky kind of cute that's hard to resist. I fell in love with Jim fast and have to keep reminding myself that he's a made-up character, not to mention one that's married. Oops.

Ross Geller

Obviously. Nothing would upset me more than when he and Rachel would fight or ignore each other. Now I'm currently waiting for a guy who will climb up the side of a building in the rain for me just because I'm upset with him. And that will totally happen. Thanks, Ross.

Corey Matthews

We watched him grow up and wished we could find someone to love us like Corey loves Topanga. It's a rare, beautiful thing.

"I believe in love like I believe in God: You can't touch it, you can't see it, but you can feel its wrath."

And I melt.

Eric Foreman

Not the best looking, but definitely a funny, goofy guy with the most perfectly-matched relationship we all want. Watching this show makes me want to go back in time to find a guy so awkward and adorable enough that our relationship could run on water, man.

Jesse Katsopolis

Still waiting on guys that look like this to write me songs that sound like this. I need to come to terms with the fact that not every attractive guy in real life can play piano and posses an incredible, sentimental song-writing talent. Major props if you do, though.

Zack Morris

Can I have you while also looking like her? Please? "Saved By The Bell" may have been one of the cheesiest shows out there, but it was still one I loved, partly because of this couple that I was obsessed with. It took them a million break-ups to finally figure out they were meant for each other, but we knew it the entire time. And in case it wasn't cheesy enough for you, what better way to tie the knot than with this classic Vegas wedding?

And finally...

Every Nicholas Sparks book or movie ever.

Every time I picked up a book or walked in a theater I expected to cry at least once. Usually because of a death in the story, but then also when I realize I'll probably never have a letter written to me every day for a year. No big deal though, whatever. I'll still always be a huge fan and will continue to dream.

I'm a sucker for a good love story, as well as addicted to Netflix. Not the best mixture. Anyways, bravo to these writers, for they've stolen my heart. I'm aware that characters like these are the reason I judge and pick boys apart, though, and I know how ridiculous that is. I'm trying to stop, and you try not to start. I'll keep reminding myself that these are fictional characters, and I'll keep waiting on the person that will make me fall in his own way and that I won't have to compare to TV shows. Until then, Netflix will do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
