Reasons To Love This Life

There has always been war, always been difficult times, always been illness, and life has always ended in death. There are always going to be times that your heart breaks and days that feel like it is "the absolute worst day." But is it really? Is your life legitimately ending? Doubtful. There are numerous optimistic people in the world thankfully, but sometimes I come across quite a few dingos who are just so darn negative all the time. I do not understand how a person goes through life being completely unhappy and searching for the negatives in every situation. So here are reasons to remember that you need to be smiling EVERY SINGLE DAY whether it isn't the best one or whatever the case is.

1) You are alive. HELLO. Be grateful you were granted another day on earth. Your body was able to function through a night of sleep. Day after day you put your body through so much--exercise, work, stress, sitting for hours at a desk, depriving it of sleep and nutrition, and other strenuous activities. Tomorrow is never a guarantee, so we all need to start appreciating every morning alarm clock we hear. Yes, hearing that terrible sound go off seems like the worst noise and all you want is a few more moments of sweet slumber, but get over and get going. Today is going to be the best day of your life.

2) Someone cares about you. Whether it is your parents, your siblings, your grandparents, your friends, your roommate, your sorority/fraternity, your boyfriend/girlfriend, your pets, or any other person--someone in the world cares about your well-being. They care about you still being alive. Your life matters to them. They want you to be happy. They want the best for you above anything else.

3) SMILE. In third grade, my teacher told me as my class was walking into all-school mass to make sure I smile at every elderly person in the church, because they might be very sad or need a boost to make their day brighter. For whatever reason, I took that to heart and have never forgotten it. A smile can change someone's day. When you are having a crappy day yourself, someone else is probably having a worse one--so you need to buck up and put on a smile. Cheering someone else up will secretly without knowing it make your day wonderful.

4) Life is beautiful. Walk outside. Smell the fresh air. No, America is not the most exotic place ever, but it is a darn good country to live in. We have so many opportunities at hand. We have the right to do just about anything within reason. And for the most part the United States is a safe place to live. We are blessed enough not to have war happening in our backyards or be worried where we will flee to next. We have a beautiful life in every aspect.

We have the power to create the best of every single moment, but overall we will definitely get stuck with a few hours of bad news, things just not going as planned, and a few times that rain will crash down during our parades. But, there is always a way to make the most of every bad situation. Umbrellas and rain boots wouldn't be so cute, if you were meant to stay inside every time it rained. Life is much too short to mope around and complain about this and that. This life is a gift and a wonderful one at that. Say you get a hundred years (give or take, of course) what are you going to do with 36,000 days? #SMILE

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
