My list of not-resolution resolutions

8 Reasons I Am Excited For 2018
Romanova Darya

I didn’t really set any resolutions for myself this year, seeing as I never stick to the ones I make and I end up feeling terrible about myself. Instead, I decided to simply write a list of reasons I’m excited about 2018 and what I’m looking forward to this year. Now, some of these may sound like resolutions, but don’t be fooled.

1. My 21st birthday

I think we all know why I’m excited about this one.

2. Transferring to a 4-year college

I currently attend Blinn College, which is a community college, and I’m hoping to transfer to Texas A&M University this fall (fingers crossed).

3. Having my own room for the first time in my life (and bathroom for that matter)

I know what you’re thinking," how are you 20 years old and have never had your own room?" Well, I have 10 siblings, that’s how. Yes, I said 10. Yes, they are all biological and of the same two parents. No, we are not Catholic or Mormon. Yes, I love having a big family. Any more questions?

4. Reading the Bible in a year

This is going to be a challenge, but I am so excited about it. I’ve never really had a set schedule or plan for reading the Bible, so I am excited to get to dive into the Word daily. There are so many apps, plans, and daily devotionals available that make it so much easier to read the Bible every day. You can click here to check out the plan I am using! It's only been a couple of weeks and I already feel like I've learned a lot.

5. Making new friends

A new year means new people that will be entering into my life, and a lot of opportunities to make befriend those people. I’m a relatively shy person, and I’m usually afraid to take those opportunities, but I’m getting better at facing my fears. My goal is to talk to at least one person in each of my classes. What’s the worst that can happen? (This is not a rhetorical question, I really want to know).

6. My amazing schedule

I’m taking a couple online classes this semester (we will see how that goes), so I only have to go to class twice a week. This is very new to me considering I have always gone to school 5 days a week. What am I going to do with all this free time? (Oh yeah, homework.)

7. Visiting my sister who just got hitched!

My sister recently graduated and ran off and got married and left me alone here in Aggieland (which you can read about here ), so she should know I will be visiting her and her husband often.

8. Learning to country dance

There is a dance hall here in College Station called Harry’s where all the Ags go to cut loose. I’ve been there once, and it was a lot of fun, but I had no idea what I was doing. So I have resolved, I mean decided, that I will actually learn how to two-step and all that jazz. Also, if anyone would like to gift me with some cowboy boots (size 7) that would be much appreciated. They may not let me in without them.

I am really excited about 2018 and everything it has in store for me. Maybe I do have a few resolutions, but I’m not going to let them stay just resolutions.

You don’t have to wait for the new year to make changes. Every morning is a new opportunity to be the person you want to be.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
