10 Reasons I Don't Miss High School All That Much

As Hilary Duff once said, that was 'So Yesterday'

10 Reasons I Don't Miss High School All That Much

High school is/was an awkward time; although there were fun times, I am not one of those people who considers high school to be the best four years of your life or could stay in high school forever.

College has made me come to the realization that I would never, ever, ever want to go back for the following reasons:

1. Getting to sleep-in at college:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F03%2F10%2F636247809839489687-485545521_giphy.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=353&h=a786a7ad45bb45ee1a62b54d79d1a77c9dc296d4537feb7ffdc361b42b47799a&size=980x&c=3599960872 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F03%252F10%252F636247809839489687-485545521_giphy.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D353%26h%3Da786a7ad45bb45ee1a62b54d79d1a77c9dc296d4537feb7ffdc361b42b47799a%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3599960872%22%7D" expand=1]

I probably spent more time in high school walking through the halls looking and feeling like a zombie.

We thought our high school drama was up there with The Jersey Shore and Laguna Beach, but it was mostly drawn-out fights that started out as rumors that will be the topic of discussion for weeks.

3. The cafeteria food:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F03%2F10%2F636247814584724894-1107417997_giphy.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=724&h=e14a634441b7eaae5a5120db921130d9d813e75e2aa970950b0315444360d891&size=980x&c=2949125561 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F03%252F10%252F636247814584724894-1107417997_giphy.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D724%26h%3De14a634441b7eaae5a5120db921130d9d813e75e2aa970950b0315444360d891%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2949125561%22%7D" expand=1]

If your parents didn't make your lunches...I'm sorry.

Also in college you don't eat on the school's schedule just on your own.

4. There's no nap time like there is in college:[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F03%2F10%2F636247843695960972-636520408_giphy.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=85&h=e42f57eb5f0820b1180db99c22f7c5c727b6d71429b2a19a48d758442789455d&size=980x&c=4148748792 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F03%252F10%252F636247843695960972-636520408_giphy.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D85%26h%3De42f57eb5f0820b1180db99c22f7c5c727b6d71429b2a19a48d758442789455d%26size%3D980x%26c%3D4148748792%22%7D" expand=1]

5. Dress codes:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F03%2F10%2F6362478460699451171323041082_giphy.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=138&h=b02495a7ac7fc8731ae9ea5c2a64049e8aecf4f67eedb6d09a0003558715b1a6&size=980x&c=1436632713 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F03%252F10%252F6362478460699451171323041082_giphy.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D138%26h%3Db02495a7ac7fc8731ae9ea5c2a64049e8aecf4f67eedb6d09a0003558715b1a6%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1436632713%22%7D" expand=1]

Because the teachers and the entire high school administration didn't believe in showing shoulders or much legs when most high schools (or mine at least) had no air conditioning--just so girls wouldn't be a "distraction" to boys getting their education.

6. The duration of high school:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F03%2F10%2F6362478480956038851482257558_source.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=347&h=a9efd602beeaaca2385090c96cef97af295a832c8fa927cf7e1226b76d8191e7&size=980x&c=2282992343 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F03%252F10%252F6362478480956038851482257558_source.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D347%26h%3Da9efd602beeaaca2385090c96cef97af295a832c8fa927cf7e1226b76d8191e7%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2282992343%22%7D" expand=1]

When you get to college, classes are roughly four hours each day, compared to the eight hours of high school--not including school sports and the hours spent doing homework.

7. The lack of learning:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F03%2F10%2F6362478505906075342099942187_giphy.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=518&h=f4e04d5e34f9bc1bc4141c4d1a3d8f7de834d8c6579513015431bd2a338804d6&size=980x&c=86941680 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F03%252F10%252F6362478505906075342099942187_giphy.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D518%26h%3Df4e04d5e34f9bc1bc4141c4d1a3d8f7de834d8c6579513015431bd2a338804d6%26size%3D980x%26c%3D86941680%22%7D" expand=1]

I think the biggest thing I've learned in college is difference in the classes I am taking now versus the ones I took in high school. Though science and math is great, there is no reason why high school seniors shouldn't be learning how to balance a check book or file for taxes in school.

8. The cliques:[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F03%2F10%2F636247853317583433-641605913_giphy.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=910&h=ed1cf82f5d51b0dda6057a0376ca67eb7f98172c48b4f229553868f80a30bb51&size=980x&c=3866274467 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F03%252F10%252F636247853317583433-641605913_giphy.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D910%26h%3Ded1cf82f5d51b0dda6057a0376ca67eb7f98172c48b4f229553868f80a30bb51%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3866274467%22%7D" expand=1]

Maybe the clique you were in was filled with a bunch of awesome people, but the fact there is that there are still labels for groups of people based on things they like or what they look like, which isn't benefiting any student.

9. The lack of trust:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F03%2F10%2F636247856431905810770221352_giphy.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=983&h=a04a64fb602079ff61e9f2e479d9ab17b6746aceac389238219968f2ddd428af&size=980x&c=186364191 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F03%252F10%252F636247856431905810770221352_giphy.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D983%26h%3Da04a64fb602079ff61e9f2e479d9ab17b6746aceac389238219968f2ddd428af%26size%3D980x%26c%3D186364191%22%7D" expand=1]

I know there are some rules that are needed in school, but to me, high school almost stripped independent freedoms from these almost adults. How are we supposed to become adults and gain maturity when we weren't allowed to bring our own water bottles from home?

10. Covering up who you really are:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2017%2F03%2F10%2F636247858375122057-1292788117_giphy.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=556&h=1ff4cf81e9b962c9788c997cce2b18907513d5c02296f04fb1b5a0cbb919062a&size=980x&c=482229999 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2017%252F03%252F10%252F636247858375122057-1292788117_giphy.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D556%26h%3D1ff4cf81e9b962c9788c997cce2b18907513d5c02296f04fb1b5a0cbb919062a%26size%3D980x%26c%3D482229999%22%7D" expand=1]

SERIOUSLY. There is a reason college is the time to "reinvent yourself", because no one cared what you did in high school. You aren't labeled because no one is interested in knowing anything about you--which is an awesome feeling.

21 EDM Songs for a Non-EDM Listener

If you have been following me for a long time, then you know I write about two main things: relateable articles and communication media based articles. Now, it is time for me to combine the two. For those of you that don't know, I am a radio DJ at IUP, and I DJ for a show called BPM (Beats Per Minute). It is an EDM, or electronic dance music, based show and I absolutely love it.

6 Things Owning A Cat Has Taught Me

This one's for you, Spock.

6 Things Owning A Cat Has Taught Me
Liz Abere

Owning a pet can get difficult and expensive. Sometimes, their vet bills cost hundreds of dollars just for one visit. On top of that, pets also need food, a wee wee pad for a dog, a litter box with litter for a cat, toys, and treats. Besides having to spend hundreds of dollars on them, they provide a great companion and are almost always there when you need to talk to someone. For the past six years, I have been the proud owner of my purebred Bengal cat named Spock. Although he's only seven years and four months old, he's taught me so much. Here's a few of the things that he has taught me.

Kinder Self - Eyes

You're Your Own Best Friend

Kinder Self - Eyes

It's fun to see all of the selfies on social media, they are everywhere. I see pictures with pouty lips, duck lips and pucker lips. I see smokey eyes, huge fake lashes and nicely done nose jobs, boob jobs and butt lifts. Women working out in spandex, tiny tops and flip flops. I see tight abs and firm butts, manicured nails and toes, up dos and flowing hair. "Wow", I think to myself," I could apply tons of make-up, spend an hour on my hair, pose all day and not look like that. Maybe I need a longer stick!"
