I have had big dreams from the start. I wanted to be a cake decorator, a rock-star, and work at McDonalds all when I was little. Needless to say, I wanted to do everything. But now that I have gotten older and a little bit wiser, I have focused on what I want to do with my life.
During my 4 years of high school, I tried out Computer Science, Chorus, Theater, and Broadcast. I learned that computer science was not my thing, I would get frustrated multiple times in that class when something went wrong, so computer science was not for me. Chorus class was fun getting to perform different types of songs, but I just could not see myself doing singing as a profession. However, theatre class was a different story. I was able to get on stage and have all my worries and stress about school go away. The skills that I learned in theater were able to help me in another class of mine, broadcast. While I shined on the stage, I also shined in front of the camera. I really enjoyed being a part of broadcast because it allowed me to not only work with other people, but it also allowed me to use my acting skills in a unique way. Even though I was just being myself in front of the camera, I still had to get information across to my school in a interesting way.
I really enjoyed broadcast class my senior year. We not only were on the school news, but we got to create music videos and movie trailers. It was a lot of fun getting to be creative and to think outside of the box. So when I got here at West Georgia, I decided to go into mass communications because I wanted to further my knowledge in this field. I knew that this major was going to help me be more creative but in a plethora of platforms including radio and television. Additionally, the world of social media has fascinated me in the past few years. I think that it is cool when a celebrity something funny or newsworthy to their followers on Twitter or Instagram. So I believe that mass communications is the right fit for me because it is going to allow me to be involved with all things entertainment through TV, radio, and social media!
Most certainly, I have not stopped dreaming. I plan to make an impact on the world through not only the skills I learned growing up, but the skills that I am about to learn. I have a very good feeling about my major and where it will take me in life. I am ready for the journey that I am about to embark on and I hope that you all are excited with me too!
