9 Reasons Every Household Needs A Dog

Whether you're a dog lover or not, there's no denying how much joy dogs can bring to people. After being away from my dog for the first time this year, I have realized how happy he really makes me. I can't imagine not growing up with him by my side.

Here's why every household should have a dog to grow up with.

1. Dogs are great with kids

When they are trained the right way, dogs make great playmates for children. Kids grow to love them like a friend. Bonus: by taking care of them, having a dog teaches kids how to be responsible.

2. Companionship

It almost always feels like dogs have a sixth sense for when their owner is feeling down. They are always there to comfort. At the same time, dogs are always ready to celebrate with you! There really is no one happier to just be in your presence than your dog.

3. They're protectors

No matter what kind of dog you own, they are always going to be there to protect you. You are their favorite thing in their life and will defend you always. Having them around will give you a sense of protection and safeness.

4. Entertainment

Dogs will always be there to make you laugh. With a dog, you can never be bored. Whether they are just chasing their tail or playing fetch with you, they are always excited to make you smile.

5. Great cuddlers

Movie nights are 100 times better cuddling with your furry friend. Having a dog means you'll always have a cuddle buddy.

6. Their loyalty

Just saying, I've never seen a service cat but service dogs are everywhere. Once you own a dog, they are loyal to you for life.

7. They actually make you healthier

Dogs can actually improve heart health by making your heart stronger. Studies show that having a canine companion is linked to lower blood pressure, reduced cholesterol, and decreased triglyceride levels, which contribute to better overall cardiovascular health and fewer heart attacks.

8. They will keep you active

Having a dog is good for your health since they absolutely must get exercise. By simply taking your dog on a daily walk or jog, you can both get your heart rates up and de-stress.

9. They are ADORABLE

Dogs really are just the cutest animals! It's nearly impossible to not love them, in my opinion. Having them around will make you happier just by how cute they are.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
