Growing Up Is Hard

Being an adult is overrated.

Growing Up Is Hard

When we were younger, all we wanted to do was grow up. We wanted to be mature and be old enough to do anything we could imagine without restrictions. Now that we’re older though, this whole being an adult thing isn’t as great as it seemed. Here are the top 11 reasons growing up isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

  1. You have to pay your own bills now, which means you have less money you can use to treat yo’ self.

  2. In general, you have more responsibilities and have to learn how to manage your time better.

  3. Getting a job is difficult because everyone wants you to have prior experience but you’d have to get a job first to get said experience.

  4. You have to grocery shop for yourself, and then cook your own meals.
  5. You have to go to the doctor's and dentist's alone, after making your own appointments.

  6. Everyone asks what your plans for the future are and you realize you should probably figure that out soon.

  7. You have to buy your own clothes, and do all of your own laundry.

  8. You have to worry about insurance and taxes, and you’re still pretty unclear how to even do your taxes.

  9. Everyone you know is getting engaged, married or starting a family and older members of your family are asking you when you're going to get married.

  10. You get to have a great time in college, but then you become incredibly stressed about how you’re going to pay for all of that education you needed to get the career you want.
  11. If you happen to complain about any of these reasons or something related to how difficult growing up is, someone older than you tells you “welcome to the real world.”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
