Having a guy friend is like having a dad and a brother in one. They can be overprotective of you, but they also love to give you a hard time. Sometimes, they even act like a boyfriend except they understand your relationship is platonic and have no expectations. You get the best of both worlds with them.
Without them, we might be a little bit more lost in life than we already are. They do more than they should for us and they don't ask for anything in return (maybe free food from time to time). To remind you that they deserve more credit than they get, I've listed 13 out of the endless reasons why they should be appreciated more!
1. They will put you in your place and not waste any time taking your BS
They're not going to just sit there and let you be a baby. With their natural straightforwardness, they'll tell you what you need to hear even if you don't want to hear it. They're not here to tolerate your tendency to be childish.
2. But, when they know something's wrong, they will be attentive
Once they notice you're not your usual self, they're either already on the way to your place or calling your phone. They'll sit there and make you talk about whatever it is that is bothering you instead of bottling it up.
3. They remember little things about you
Just when you think they are too forgetful and don't pay attention, they'll prove you wrong. They remember your usual order at Chipotle or Chick-fil-A. They even remember the embarrassing crushes you had in middle school while everyone else has forgotten about them.
4. They care about what you think and really do take your advice
Some days, it's them who need a little help. They value your opinion more than you think. You're their go-to when they need a girl's perspective. From picking out a fresh 'fit to planning a fun date, they know you're the one they can rely on.
5. They're always down for adventures and shenanigans
Late-night food run? Spontaneous road trip? Run around the city? Last minute concert tickets? Catch them already pulling into your driveway and rushing you to get ready.
6. They still bring drama, but it's almost never anything THAT bad
They're a bit more forgiving. They understand shit happens and won't hold a grudge. Instead, they just turn the situation into another one of your inside jokes.
7. They don't expect anything from you; they know your friendship is platonic
When they invite you to Netflix and chill, you ACTUALLY just binge-watch shows together while you stuff your faces with food. You can chill and not worry about them making a move on you.
8. They don't easily get hurt when you say something insensitive
After all, your friendship is based on banters. Neither of you ever take it personally. You give each other crap 24/7, which has helped you have a thick skin. No need to worry about someone getting offended and crying.
9. They always come to your rescue
When they find out some boy decided to cancel his plans with you, they'll scoop you and hang with you. When you need a date, they'll even act as the perfect boyfriend to impress your family and friends. When you can't figure out a math problem, they'll work it out with you and make sure you understand it.
10. They solve your boy problems faster than you can say fuckboy
They're members of the male species themselves. They've got the insight. They speak the guy code. They put your girlfriends to shame when it comes to solving your boy related dilemmas. They KNOW the difference when a boy is just using you and when he does like you.
11. They encourage your stupid decisions when everyone else is against them
You feel like hoe-ing out? They'll support it. You want to binge-drink? They'll even join you. They're the pros at yolo-ing it. They understand you gotta wild out every now and then. And, they'll still be there it's time to reevaluate your life after your not-so-good decisions.
12. They never make you feel like you're annoying them
You're perfectly comfortable blowing up their phone. You don't feel weird sending them too many snaps. You quadruple-text them without any hesitation. You know you can FaceTime them at any time of the day.
13. They love you no matter what and protect you at all costs
They have subtle ways to show they love you with you flat out saying it. As much as they enjoy messing with you, they get overprotective when it comes to you.
Boyfriends come and go as they please, but your guy friends have accepted the fact they're stuck with you forever. Give them a little more appreciation for putting up with you. They know you're a handful half the time and it's not very easy dealing with you. Yet, they still choose to keep you in their lives.
