10 Reasons I Am Thankful

We should think of why we're thankful everyday not just on Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is now behind us. I ate a lot of turkey and said what I was thankful for,but shouldn’t we be thankful everyday? I took some time to really reflect on what I am thankful for this year.

1.Family

Friends come and go but family is forever. The death of grandfather in 2016 really rocked my family. Our bond has grown stronger and I am so thankful for it! I don’t know who I would be without them.

2. Education

I never imagined that I would go to the school of my choice, but here I am! I’m so thankful for the opportunity to get to further my education at JSU! Go Cocks!

3. My Roommate

I seriously can’t even explain how thankful I am for this girl. We were strangers at one point now I can’t imagine my life without her in it. She was my very first friend here in Jacksonville and she’s now my best friend!

4. Church

First Baptist Church of Jacksonville hosts Engage JSU every Monday night. It is hands down the best college ministry and I will attend until I graduate from here in 4 years!

5. Friends

I’m still working on putting myself out there and meeting new people, but the people I have met thus far have been some of the best. I’m thankful for the friends I’m making and the friends to come.

6. Home

I’m so thankful for home. No I don’t mean the actually house that I grew up in. I mean the town that I grew up in, it still houses all of my friends and family. I’m always so thankful to have home to run back to.

7. Breaks

I know this seems funny but I am seriously so thankful for breaks. The week before Thanksgiving break I think I only went to like four classes! College is hard, breaks are needed!

8. Financial Aid

See 2. Without financial aid I would be working my butt off trying to pay for college. I know there are people out there doing exactly that and I applaud you! I would probably have about 5 breakdowns a week if I was in your shoes.

9. Naps

Yall dont understand. I love to sleep and naps are probably my favorite pastimes. Whenever an application asks about my hobbies I put naps. I’m really not kidding!

10. My God

My God is an awesome God. Without him I wouldn’t have anything to be thankful for. I can probably come up with 10,000 reasons why I am thankful but my God and our friendship trumps them all.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
