She graced our movie screens with elegance as she worked her way to the heart of millions. For as long as I can remember I have always been amazed with her elegance, her humility, her beauty, her mind and her heart. Though she is seen as a timeless icon, she never viewed herself as such. Her films were exquisite, however, and my admiration for her goes much deeper than that. She wasn’t just a pretty face. She was a story of survival and accomplishment.
1.“Happiest girls are the prettiest.”
She saw beauty in kindness, happiness and personal charm rather than superficial things such as personal features, race and looks.
2. “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ’I’m possible’.”
During her life, Audrey faced many challenges—growing up she was left with malnutrition and then developed acute anemia. She had been relocated to the Netherlands as a child as a result of the Nazi regime and saw many people starve to death or be transported to concentration camps. Despite the struggles she faced, she remained selfless and gave ballet performances to help raise money for the Dutch resistance to German occupation.
3.“The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.”
Audrey valued the important things in life: her relationship with others and how she treated them. She never placed high value on material things such as money, and never saw herself above anyone else. She was a true humanitarian and empathized with those who suffered. Even though she faced many hardships growing up, and in her pregnancies, she never let that change the way she treated people.
4. “I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
She always displayed a child-like sense of worry-free optimism. Regardless of the stress from her job she always had light-hearted thoughts on her mind to share with others to bring them to ease. She faced her life with joy and a sense of laughter. She tried to bring out the good in every situation and was determined if she was not surrounded with it that she would be able to find it.
5. “I’m not beautiful. My mother once called me an ugly duckling. But, listed separately, I have a few good features.”
There is no doubt that Audrey was absolutely stunning. She displayed every characteristic a classy, elegant woman should. Though she was always admired for her beauty and talent, she always acted humbly. She would joke in interviews that she couldn’t act and couldn’t imagine why they would want a face like hers on television. However, despite her jokes about herself, to this day she is and continues to be named on of film’s best actresses, as well as one of the most beautiful actresses to ever grace the world.
There are endless reasons as to why Audrey Hepburn was an amazing human being, she showed us that humility and a caring heart are truly the most beautiful quality a person can have. I will always have such a great level of admiration for her and the way she lived her life as a journey to help others before she thought about herself. For these reasons, Audrey Hepburn will always be my role model.
