5 Reasons Why We Should Act More Like Buddy The Elf

When most people watch the movie Elf they don't normally associate it with life lessons we could learn. They immediately dismiss it as a movie that's fun, and overly silly at times. I would like to purpose though that if we all acted more like Buddy the Elf. We may get more enjoyment out of life, and even begin to understand ourselves even more. Because, through watching Elf every year, and the older I get, the more that I learn from him. So I have compiled five reasons why we should all act more like Buddy the Elf.

1. Smiling in the face of adversity.

Sometimes in life we let adversity consume us to the point where we just forget to smile. Buddy the Elf has been going through adversity throughout his life. His mom dying, fitting into a culture that's not his own, and dealing with a dad that doesn't want him. Buddy has a lot to be sad about, yet he never seems to let it get him down. That's why I believe we should all smile like Buddy does. Even if life seems down at times, it's ok to be sad, but it's the little things that should make us smile like Buddy.

2. Belief that anyone can have an impact in your life.

Throughout the movie Buddy has countless interactions with characters that are the polar opposite of him. Characters that some may consider shady even. But, Buddy always allows them a chance in his life and tries to learn from them. He then in turn teaches them cheer, and happiness. This belief has allowed people to be in Buddy's life where if he took them by their label, he wouldn't have had an affect on their life, or they wouldn't have had an affect on his. We should all let people into our lives to have an impact on, even if they don't seem like the best people on the outside.

3. Not being afraid to admit our past failings.

Buddy the Elf is never afraid to be humble, he learns from his mistakes. Because, of this he bounces back faster than most people. When he does apologize he is genuine about it. We should all have a little more humility like Buddy.

4. Asking the Questions that need to be asked.

Sometimes we over complicate life. All of the questions about who would you live or die for. Buddy the elf focuses on the moment, sometimes the simplest questions can be the most profound. Finding out what someone's favorite color, or music genre, is just as important. Because, that genuinely lets people know that we care about what their interests are.

5. Be A Hopeless Romantic

Buddy isn't scared of love, in fact, he embraces it. He loves to love. This is one of his favorite things to do. In today's age, love has been often misinterpreted as just someone to advance further in life with. This isn't the definition to Buddy, in fact it's the exact opposite with him. Love to him is someone he can spend the current moment with. We should all love like Buddy. Love to him is when you really want to see someone, and you think they're beautiful/handsome, and um feel really warm around them, and uhhhhh your tongue swells up. So, do you wanna eat food?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
