One of the best ways to describe how I look is having a resting b**** face or the rbf. Better known for looking intimidating, it’s the natural face a person reverts to that tends to make them look like they’re in a bad mood and/or pissed off. Sometimes it comes in handy, but other times it backfires. Whether or not you can control it, the rbf definitely has it’s pros and cons.
Pro:
- No one talks to you : People are usually too scared to approach you because you look so upset therefore you don’t have to have any unnecessary conversations.
- Speaking of questions, people won’t ask you stupid questions which would further put you in a bad mood. If they do, your rbf says your response. You’re not pleased.
- You look like you’re always ready for business. No one should mess with you when you have your rbf going. It’s like touching a lion with a stick and then waiting for it to pounce on you. We’re always fired up and ready to go.
- Your personality can flip like a switch if you need it to. If I’m happy but I need to be serious, it’s never a problem. Lower your gaze and cheeks and head and then you have an instant rbf. Also, you can switch back out of an rbf if you’re good at it.
- Looking pissed off makes it easier to ignore people. No one will be hurt if you don’t talk to them because you look angry.
- Sometimes people will ask what’s wrong/are you okay which is really nice and caring. Sometimes it really just is the rbf but also gives you a chance to open up if you’d like to.
- You can give people a good laugh when they ask if you’re okay and you respond, “oh I’m fine it’s just my face” because it literally just is your face.
Con:
- You look pissed off all the time which means people may not want to talk to you even if you’re dying to talk to someone.
- People are afraid to approach you. Sometimes it can lead to missed opportunities. It does help having a smile on your face from time to time.
- People think you’re mad at them and usually the answer is no. Again “it’s just my face.”
- People will take your face the wrong way and get offended. If they know you well enough they know you mean nothing by how your rbf looks and you can be really happy with them. It takes time getting used to.
- You always look judgemental. I’ve been trying to be less judgemental but it makes it harder when people see the way my face falls and just assume I’m thinking badly of them when in reality I probably just have elevator music running through my head.
With a resting b**** face, you can get the best of both worlds. Use it wisely.
