For the college student or anyone wanting to keep a resolution, for once.

It's the new year. That means it's time to set unrealistic goals for the new year. You sign up for the local gym's new year deal and buy all organic food from the local health food store. These resolutions start out strong for the first few weeks of the year, but by the time February comes around, the gyms are empty, and the health food stores are full of the organic food again.

Here are some realistic resolutions that can last you longer than the gym membership you won't use--and are free.

1. Talk to your family more often

Keeping up with your siblings, no matter how annoying they are to you, is a great thing to do. Talk to your cousins, aunts and uncles when you see them. Text them to see how they're doing. Call your grandparents just because; they would love to hear from you.

2. Go to church more often

You say it every week, "I'm going to make it to church this week," but it doesn't happen. You make it when you get enough sleep or when you just feel like it. A good resolution would be to make it to church every week, or at least most of the weeks.

3. Spend less time on your phone

Being on social media all the time doesn't help anything. It usually causes more anxiety, and it keeps you from experiencing things around you. Aside from maintaining your Snapchat streaks, spend a day a week without social media. It'll make you feel less stressed.

4. Get better grades

Study more. Read more. Take better notes. Show up to class. Be engaged. While this is a hard resolution, it's an important one. Making the most of your education will only benefit you in the long run.

5. Keep an organized calendar

Keep an agenda with all of your assignments, and make a list of all the papers and tests due for the semester. Write down your work schedule, and keep to a daily, weekly and monthly calendar.

6. Get a good night's sleep

Getting enough sleep every night and avoiding "all-nighters" all- together is so good for your health.

7. Drink more water

For anyone who knows me, this is my go-to response to health problems. If you stay hydrated, you'll avoid fatigue, upset stomach, dizziness and many other health problems that affect your daily life.

8. Take more time for yourself

Whether that be by watching Netflix, sitting on your bed reading a book, walking outside at dusk, sitting on your deck watching the birds or playing catch with your dog. Take more time for yourself to meditate and relax. You'll feel so much better.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
