The song “I Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weekend came on the radio today and normally I am not the biggest fan of this song because, well, I personally can feel my face on a pretty regular basis so maybe I just can’t relate to it.
However, I always wondered how Abel came up with this song.
Then, it hit me:
Novocaine.
Think about it! “I can’t feel my face when I’m with you,” is clearly talking about a guy at the dental office. Who is the person he can’t feel his face with? The dentist who is injecting four shots of Novocaine into Abel’s gums!
Now I truly can relate to this song.
I couldn’t feel my face in that situation either Abel.
Now, even I, someone who hates needles and dreads Novocaine even more, have to admit that sometimes it a pretty cool feeling not being able to feel one's cheeks even though they are obviously still there. If not, you got too much Novocaine and you should probably get that looked at.
But the fact that The Weekend clearly “loves” not feeling his face led me to only one conclusion:
Laughing gas. You know, the stuff that dentist give you so you can find humour in the fact that you're getting tragically numbified by novocaine needles.
“I can’t feel my face when I’m with you.”
“That would be the Novocain kicking in Mr. Weekend.”
“But I love it.”
“We gave you laughing gas Mr. Weekend. You will love almost anything at this point.”
“But I love it.”
“I think he is succumbing to the Anesthesia, Doctor.”
Poor, Abel. Getting his wisdom teeth pulled, and on a weekend no less!
