The Real Problem In America

It's no secret that America has seen its fair share of tragedy in recent days. Citizens have lately been killing one another as if there is no shame in doing so. While they seem to believe they are being vigilantes, they're truly destroying the lives of many people all across the nation. The issue at hand isn't committing crime for the greater good: the problem is selfishness.

Hear me out. I'm not claiming that everyone who strongly supports a cause is selfish. You're fully entitled to your opinion and I will respect you for doing so. What's selfish is that people are letting their personal prejudices and vendettas take over every once of their mind. It's selfish that they kill undeserving people all because they feel a hatred towards them. We are in a dangerous spot as Americans. We are nearing a presidential election that will change our nation immensely. Either the country can change and be more loving, or it can change and become a further bloodbath.

Furthermore, consider the horrid news we have faced in recent days. What pattern do you see? I see people groups killing other people groups. African Americans and cops seem to have their own little war going on when the problem on both sides has been avoided all along. The issue for cops is that they rely on gun use when they used to rely on pepper spray and tasers. There are bad cops (not every cop is a killer) who shoot before they even know if a situation is dangerous. To those feeling opposed by cops, understand that not every cop is like that. Stop playing into their game that you hate so much. There are many people in law enforcement who do everything they can to ensure your safety and they deserve a thank you, not a bullet in their body.

If we continue down this road, no one will know peace. No one will be able to feel the acceptance into society that they so desperately long for. Try loving others and looking past their uniform, their skin tone, their religion, and their sexual preferences. If we can see one another as human beings and form a sense of unity, the nation will become the good country it was destined to be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
