Real Madrid's Big Summer

After an unusually disappointing and lackluster 2018/2019 campaign, Real Madrid has went into the summer of 2019 determined to rebuild the entirety of its first team through some notable transfers from across the world. Los Blancos does not fall from the top of the European football hierarchy often, but when they do they make sure to bounce back like no other. Let's take a look at Real's newly acquired talent as it stands heading into the month of July.

Éder Militão

$57M

21 y/o, CB, FC Porto

via Metro

Militão arrives to Real off of a transfer from FC Porto of Portugal for $57M, a deal that was completed during the latter half of the 2019 campaign. While he is still relatively young and stares down a defense that already includes world class players such as Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos, Militão offers more versatility for Madrid out of their back line going forward. With the ability to play at the right fullback position along with fulfilling centerback duties, the Brazilian product brings a new dimension to a rather stale and aging defense. Look out for Militão's knack for goal and developing eye of creativity as well, as he managed to rack up 3 goals and 4 assists in 29 appearances last season.

Rodrygo

$51.3M

18 y/o, LW, Santos FC

via Transfermarkt

Yet another golden prospect to hail from the famed club of Santos FC in the Serie A of Brazil, young winger Rodrygo offers a wealth of potential on the outside for a club in desperate need of wingers. Now ranking as the second most valuable eighteen year old in the world ($45.6M), behind only Dortmund's Jadon Sancho, Rodrygo has quite a bit to live up to even after producing a respectable 11 goals in 35 appearances last season. Drawing some lofty comparisons to Neymar Jr., Rodrygo utilizes his pace and dribbling skills to often cut inside the defense where he takes a very freestyle approach to his creation. This combination of speed and creativity also enables Rodrygo to play multiple positions on the attack, including either wing spot, center forward, and some time as a supporting striker.

While he still has sizeable room to develop, look for Rodrygo to pair nicely with Real's last summer pull from Brazil of Vinícius Júnior.

Luka Jovic

$68.4M

21 y/o, CF, Eintracht Frankfurt

via FOXSPORTS

One of this summer's hottest signings comes in form of Luka Jovic, the Serbian striker from the Bundersliga side of Eintracht Frankfurt. This past year Jovic was absolutely incredible in front of a goal, posting numbers of 17 goals and 6 assists in only 32 appearances. While these numbers are something to admire, the youngster does have some concerns when working outside of the box, displaying a lack of dribbling skills and not much at all of a defensive presence. Yet, with the added presence of another striker in the team, current no. 9 Karim Benzema is finally given some competition to watch out for as Real adds yet another quality goal threat up top.

Ferland Mendy

$54.7M

24 y/o, LB, Olympique Lyon

via Bleacher Report

Ferland Mendy comes in to the Santiago Bernabeu off one of the best seasons any leftback has ever had in the history of France's Ligue 1 and at only 24 years old, still possessing room to grow. In defense, Mendy is nothing short of incredible, only allowing himself to be dribbled by 3 times in his 30 games of 2018/2019. This is also to go along with his incredible tackle success rate of 94%. Stellar.

While still developing on the opposite side of the pitch, Mendy has showed a great deal of promise to develop into a credible threat down the wing for Madrid in the coming years. For defenders in Ligue 1 last season, the Frenchman completed the second most dribbles of any defender (55). On top of that any player who attempted more than 50 dribbles, regardless of position, Mendy ranked first at 75.7%. Tack on his 7 assists through 79 games with Lyon, and you are looking at a developing threat on the outside who looks to add another dimension to an already exceptional game. All of these numbers coming from a 24 year old leftback who's total appearances in his career equal a measly 129.

Mendy is a special talent who will look to slowly step into the gigantic and legendary shoes of Real Madrid stalwart Marcelo.

Eden Hazard

$114M

28 y/o, LW, Chelsea

via GiveMeSport

Hazard's name and reputation need no explanation. The Belgian man requires no presentation into his expertise or abilities on the pitch. The former Chelsea lead man comes in with a hefty price tag attached to his name ($114M), but a bag full of skills, creativity, and pure class that Madrid so desperately lacks. Eden Hazard is a world class player who has the capability and potential to change the identity and DNA of Real Madrid for the foreseeable future.

Quite possibly Real Madrid's biggest acquisition since the coronation of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, Eden Hazard comes into a team in desperate need of a reliable attacking threat and definitive leader. Through his time at Chelsea, Hazard was able to provide all of that and then some for the English side. Holding down a team that was always in a consistent state of mayhem and madness, specially this past year with Maurizio Sarri at the helm, Hazard has displayed the ability to perform on the pitch no matter his surroundings or accompanying team. A man capable of "putting the team on his back", 2018/2019 saw the Belgian put up incredible numbers of 21 goals and 17 assists in 52 appearances. World class numbers from a world class player.

Real has brought in a wealth of players this summer with possibilities to add even more, but the signing of Eden Hazard has the single-handed potential to launch them right back into the hierarchy of both La Liga and European football. The ability to not only put the ball in the back of the net himself, but also create for others all across the pitch, will drastically alter and boost the way Madrid plays on the attack.

While the 2018/2019 season was an extremely disappointing year by Real Madrid standards, both in La Liga (3rd) and Europe (No UCL Trophy for once), their summer efforts to revamp and revitalize their squad have brought in youth and new talent that look to boost them right back into the hierarchy of the football world. Yes, it seemed like the end of times for Los Blancos domination at certain points throughout last year, but this team has been restocked and reloaded heading into 2020 in typical Real Madrid fashion. Did you really expect anything less from Zinedine Zidane, Florentino Perez, and Real Madrid?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
