Cure Your Wanderlust With A Book

We can't always get away, but we always have access to books.

Struggling with wanderlust? Want some adventure in your life? When you're unable to travel physically, travel mentally. The world is just a page away when you pick up a book. Here is a poem that I wrote based on my love of reading:

I turn a page.

The words begin changing until they aren’t merely words anymore.

There are now princesses and castles in their place.

I’m no longer myself; my heart begins to soar.

I am anyone I want to be; I can claim any face.

This is the real me.

I follow the Yellow Brick Road and join the Mad Hatter for tea.

Rapunzel’s Tower looms above me in the sky.

I hear Peter beg Wendy to never say “goodbye.”

I can go anywhere I want.

There is so much more hiding just underneath the font.

I travel through the looking glass and into the woods.

Red is the color of both the queen and the little girl’s hood.

I can fly when Tinkerbelle shares her pixie dust.

Within these pages I find familiarity, friendship, and trust.

This world is an escape; a paradise that only I can see.

Not many others are willing to brave this journey.

These adventures take place within myself

When I’m gone, they wait for me upon a book shelf.

I’ve fallen through the rabbit hole and met Captain Hook

Because I first turned the pages of a book.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
