Have you ever felt unqualified? Like studying for a reading test and then finding out it's a math test. I think we all secretly fight feelings of inadequacy or incompetence. We wonder whether we measure up, fear we're not "enough."
Maybe it's in your character. It could be a flaw you've tried to hide. Such as anger or an addiction. Something that, even though it's in the past, you live in fear that one day it will come back and destroy everything that you've built up to this point.
Maybe it's trouble at home. At your workplace, you might be the one who has it all figured out. Yet at home, it's a different story. You might have no idea what you're doing when it comes to raising your child. Maybe you feel like your marriage is falling apart. Maybe you're the child hurting and you don't know how to ask for help.
Maybe you feel you're not worthy of love, because we accept the love we think we deserve. I grew up watching a marriage fall apart, making me the child who silently cried for help. As I got older, I felt as if I had to prove my worth. Every feeling of anger, bitterness, and unworthiness was swept under the rug, altering my character. I hoped that one day, I could leave the past where it belonged.
Even though you may feel unworthy, The Lord wants to bless you. John 4:1-26, talks about Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well, and despite her social class, asked her for a drink. This passage teaches us that God loves us in spite of our bankrupt lives. God values us enough to actively seek us, to welcome us to intimacy, and to rejoice in our worship.
As a result, only a person like the Samaritan woman, an outcast to from her own people, could understand what this means. To be wanted, to be cared for when no one, not even she herself, could see anything of value... this is grace indeed.
God uses broken people to do big things. Take Tyler Perry as an example; he had to overcome his physically and sexually abusive past. He got kicked out of high school and tried to commit suicide twice. Tyler Perry didn't allow his past to dictate his future. The real question here is, will you let go of any feelings of unworthiness to allow God to bless your life?
