Nine months ago, I wrote an article about 28 things that will happen at a twenty one pilots concert. Today, after having gone to another show, I realize there is a difference between the debut of Blurryface and the Emotional Roadshow.
When the now famous duo set out on the second tour of the red era, there was no telling when this character would go away. However, after having gone through the show, I could metaphorically, see the singer/song writer literally killing his insecurities.
Even with the immense success of the Blurryface album, quite literally, Fame and Success is what the band had gained, and now I suggest that they can return to their roots in creativity and bring back the style they had before.
The set list included songs from every album, including the self titled album. This came as a shock to me, but I could see that as the red suits came off, the innocents of singing at the piano, and the ski masks were being put back on. Seeing the front man of the band sitting in the middle of the stage rapping out these lyrics that he wrote over ten years ago in high school really set me back.
As soon as I would have guessed it, the red and black logo morphed into the old red, white, and blue thicker logo. To me, this symbolizes that the band has defeated blurryface, and perhaps some of their demons or insecurities.
Since the band has now "made it", their fan-base is so strong, that no matter which direction they choose to go from here artistically, they have a sense that their fans will back them up, and support any new sounds.
Counter-arguments to this going back theory include the only new song that has come out is also a single on the radio that sounds very dark and mysterious. Meaning that the sound hasn't moved on from a Blurryface perspective. To be fair, the song is on the soundtrack for the Suicide Squad movie, and suggests that it may have only been written for the movie.
Whether or not the new single dictates the same direction, I will always love the band twenty one pilots. Whenever an era ends, it is always sad because the excitement of the name Blurryface will only be brought up in nostalgic feelings. However, the end of an era always holds promise to the beginning of a new one, and I can't wait to see what it is.
