RAZ Productions: Music, Passion, and Business

If you’re a CofC student and haven’t been to a music-driven event in town- whether it be a night out on King, a Greek life mixer, or even an event on campus- are you really a CofC student?

RAZ Productions: Music, Passion, and Business

Music runs this city- and when you combine passion and a love for music with a business plan and driven execution, you have the potential to strike gold. RD Weeks, a College of Charleston graduate of spring 2014, did just this with his start up company, RAZ Productions. I recently got the chance to sit down and talk with him about the creation of the business thus far, and where he hopes to go with it in the future.

RD graduated through CofC’s business department with an entrepreneurial concentration- this background has definitely come in handy through the founding and development of RAZ Productions. The entire production has been in the works for about a year and half now, and he says the overall idea came from the inclination to combine his love of music and DJ-ing with his business skills and desire to help the community.

Essentially, RAZ Productions is a company geared towards helping rising artists- especially young college graduates- break into the music industry in the most rewarding and stress-free way possible. Not only do they strive to benefit the artists they have as clients, but they also help college organizations and campuses put on successful events with top-tier young talent. They’re working to streamline the process of hiring musical talent for various events through connecting their artistic clients with organizations in the college community.

Though the goal is to eventually work with all types of artists and bands, currently their focus is on working with DJs. You can check out one of their local clients, DialedIN, at their facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/dialedindialedin?fref=ts,... and their Soundcloud page at  https://soundcloud.com/dialedin.

So far RAZ Productions has worked events on CofC’s campus such as sorority bid days, a Cougar Excursion party, various Greek life mixers and date parties, etc. They have also traveled to Clemson to help put on events there, and they’re looking to hopefully expand to schools like USC and UGA.

Their goal is to eventually reach a diversified network of campuses and help musicians expand audience and fan base across the country, but they’re focused mainly on the southeast region right now, which makes Charleston especially lucky!

In fact, RAZ Productions is putting on an official launch party on November 14th, at Mynt from 8-10:30pm to celebrate the success they’ve already had, and the success still to come- it’s going to be an exclusive, ticketed event, but if you follow their social media accounts, you may just have a chance to win free tickets! They’ve also teamed up with Red Bull, so you might even score some free energy drinks.

RAZ Productions is definitely an awesome company to keep a lookout for- their official website is going to be launched in the upcoming weeks, but until then, you can follow them on their various social media, listed below. And if your organization needs a DJ for any upcoming events, please shoot them an email at razproductionsmusic@gmail.com. You can also feel free to email them if you yourself are a DJ who wants some representation!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
