Harry Styles' New Songs Ranked From Best To Worst
Billboard

On May 12th, 2017, Harry Styles dropped his first debut album "Harry Styles,"and the world went crazy, as it should've. In his first album without One Direction, he dabbles in different music genres and takes after many artists like the Rolling Stones and David Bowie. After listening to it with deep debilitation, here are the ranking of the songs off his new album from best to worst. All in all, thank you Harry.

10. Two Ghosts

"We're just two ghosts standing in the place of you and me

Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat"

The fourth song on the album is called "Two Ghosts." Through all the speculation on who or what the song is about, people don't realize that the song is extremely boring. This song sounds most like his days in One Direction, which was not what I was expecting out of the album.

9. Woman

"Tempted, you know

Apologies are never gonna fix this

I'm empty, I know

Promises are broken like a stitch is"

In the ninth song on the album, the beginning of the song starts with a cute quirky line to start the song off. The song has a strange combination of sounds - it's jazzy, hip-hop type beat melts wonderfully with its 80s vibe, which differs from the rest of the album's indie/rock sound, but other than that it's pretty forgettable.

8. Meet Me in the Hallway

"Give me some morphine

Is there any more to do?"

The instrumentals in the song sound alike to the Beatles Rubber Soul album days, which was one of their best musical times, because of the different instrumentals that they tested, which is why I enjoyed the song.

7. Ever Since New York

"I need something, tell me something new

Choose your words, 'cause there's no antidote

For this curse, oh, what's it waiting for?

Must this hurt you just before you go?"

With sweet sounding vocals and a more acoustic sound compared to other songs on the album, this song takes you on a journey not only through Harry's emotions, but in the Big Apple itself. It practically feels as though you're walking throughout New York City with earbuds in, admiring autumn leaves while fighting off the chill of wind. Songs like this are sweet and simple, but manage to keep an unoccupied mind at ease.

6. Only Angel

"Broke a finger knocking on your bedroom door

I got splinters in my knuckles crawling across the floor."

In one of Styles' hard rock sounding songs, the beginning of the song starts off with a harmony. The beginning catches you off guard when the hard rock sound begins but as the song progresses, the song and sounds work together in harmony.

5. Sign of the Times

"Welcome to the final show

Hope you're wearing your best clothes."

With obvious nods to Bowie, this song comes in fifth. The lyrics tell a story about loss and the end of an era while taking the listener through a maddeningly beautiful journey of melodic bliss. It see-saws from soft and slow to rough and intense, whereas Harry's voice stays crisp and strong throughout.

4. Carolina

"She's got a book for every situation

Gets into parties without invitations

How could you ever turn her down?"

Being a girl from the south myself, I have a sweet spot for this song. The song has a funkier beat than most songs on the album, making it a summer favorite for driving around with your windows down. Imagine drinking sweet tea on the front porch to this and it'll soon become one of your favorites too.

3. Sweet Creature

"Sweet creature, sweet creature

Wherever I go, you bring me home."

With the same guitar tune as Blackbird by the Beatles, the sweet melodic song tells a different story from the songs of heartbreak throughout the rest of the album. It tells a story of love and happiness, which is a good buffer from some other songs on the album.

2. Kiwi

"Hard candy dripping on me 'til my feet are wet

And now she's all over me, it's like I paid for it."

If any song can make a girl feel like a badass, it's Kiwi. The raunchier side of the album shows an apparent sexual awakening from his days in a good-guy boy band. The amount of emotion put into this song is what puts it at number two on the list - while it's not soft and sweet emotion, it's hard and sounds like a wild ride from start to finish.

1. From the Dining Table

"We haven't spoke since you went away

Comfortable silence is so overrated."

With a circa 2007 Bon Iver feel, the soft and affectionate tune makes you miss people you didn't even realize you missed. The quiet emotional ballad shows a new side of Styles that couldn't be seen from his days in One Direction. The light indie music differs from the rock sound of the majority of the album, but he seems to be more confident in his vulnerability in this song. Well done, Harry.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
