As a connoisseur of desserts during the height of the holiday season, my heart is in a very happy place. Everywhere you turn there are different delicious dessert options. I have taken it upon myself to do some research into the best, and worst, holiday desserts. Granted that research almost solely involved texting the most recent contacts on my phone, I was able to develop a precise list of holiday desserts so that you can be prepared for that work holiday potluck you have to attend.

13. Fruit Cake:
So I actually received mixed results on this dessert choice, but in reality, it belongs at the bottom of the list. What actually is a fruit cake? Nobody knows. What’s in it? Again, nobody knows. Why does it weigh so much? Still no response. There are just too many unanswered questions surrounding this dessert for it to ever be a good option. There is no circumstance in which fruit cake should be your first choice for a holiday dessert.
12. Mince Meat Pie:
To be honest, I didn’t even know this was a thing. During my research, I discovered that it is one of my mom’s favorite holiday desserts. I immediately questioned her about what it was and I’m confused as to how it is even a dessert. If it involves minced beef, it does not belong on a dessert table.
11. Store bought Christmas cookies:
No. Just no. Come on, put some effort into it. Buy some flour, butter, and eggs and make some homemade cookies. It’s really not that difficult. The fact that some people don’t make their own cookies baffles me. The only exception to this rule is the Pillsbury sugar cookies that have like, Christmas trees and snowmen on them, that’s it.
10. Pudding:
First of all, who decided that this was a holiday dessert? Pudding should forever be served in little plastic cups. If you decide to put a giant vat of pudding out at your holiday party, you might need to reevaluate your life choices.
9. Gingerbread:
Just because it’s seasonal doesn’t make it good. Making a gingerbread house is cool and all, but just eating gingerbread cookies is similar to eating sawdust covered in spices.
8. Pumpkin Pie:
The controversy on this dessert was intense. You either love it or you hate it. I personally am a huge fan of pumpkin pie, especially with cool whip on top, but for the sake of all of the people that said they hated it, I ranked it towards the bottom. Also, I consider pumpkin pie to be more of a Thanksgiving dessert rather than a winter holiday dessert, therefore it takes another hit further demoting it.
7. Pecan Pie:
You either love it or you hate it. Personally I hate it but I know quite a few people that love it. I guess it’s somewhat seasonal and can be good so it doesn’t rank at the bottom.
6. Apple Pie:
Sure, apple pie is delicious. Sure, most people love apple pie. But what makes it a special holiday dessert? Nothing.
5. Fudge:
Fudge is insanely underappreciated. First of all, it’s delightful. Simple as that. Second, it can be made into a variety of festive flavors. Third, it’s easy to give as a gift to other people. There are so many bonuses to fudge.
4. Apple Pie Cheesecake:
If you haven’t had apple pie cheesecake yet, you need to educate yourself quickly. It’s a combination of two delicious desserts that equals a slice of heaven. You may argue that just like apple pie that it is not exclusively a holiday dessert. Well, it’s my list, and I’m making the rules.
3. Anything peppermint flavored:
Peppermint season is about 10,000x better than pumpkin spice season. It tastes amazing with just about everything, and can be used in almost any dessert. Peppermint bark, peppermint brownies, you name it. My mind will never be changed about this
2. French Silk Pie:
Perhaps one of the most underestimated holiday desserts. Every single aspect of this pie is incredible on its own, but when paired together, there is almost nothing better. Light and chocolatey, this dessert will be the first to go at any holiday party.
1. My mom’s Christmas cookies:
Granted most of you reading this have probably never experienced my mom’s Christmas cookies, they are one of the greatest things to ever grace the face of this planet. Most of you would probably say the same about your family’s cookie recipe of choice, so feel free to replace my mom with your mom or grandma or whatever. Anything homemade is automatically at the top of the list.
The holidays are the best time of year for desserts, so embrace it. As cliché as it is, the holidays only come once a year.
