We are only three months into this year and already I have had my fair share of storms. Some I thought had cleared until they crept back up on me and hit me like a tsunami. It's fairly common for us to comfort ourselves and others during hard times by saying that there is a rainbow after every storm, but does the storm ever truly end? I know that at first this suggestion sounds harsh, even a little morbid, but bear with me. I don't know about you, but my life has seemed to be a series of storms, back to back, varying in severity and in the amount of damage left behind.
So, I propose that instead of looking for the rainbow at the end of the storm, you should look for the rainbow in the storm. I'm not saying that learning to dance in the rain can't be a good way to get through a tough time, because it is. I just think that looking for the rainbow within the storm is different than waiting for it to pass, or dancing in it.
Finding a rainbow after a storm is rare but what's unheard of is finding a rainbow during a storm. When you are going through a particularly rough patch timing can make all the difference. Some people simply cannot make it to the end of the storm for their rainbow, and they don't have to. Telling someone that there is a rainbow after every storm insinuates that there will be an end to the tough times and in most cases there isn't really. The end of a storm may never come, and even if it does it won't be long until you are in the eye of another one. So that's why it is crucial to find the rainbow within the storm. If it's truly your rainbow it will be there though the darkest times as well as in your moments of tranquility. You won't be able to put it in a drawer for the next storm. It will not only shine above you but also inside of you. Some days it may be dimmer than others depending on the forecast, but it will always be there.
If your having trouble finding the rainbow in the midst of your storm then that just means that you haven't yet realized that the rainbow in the storm is you. And the sooner you figure that out the better; people, promising opportunities, and the little things will come in and out of your life just as frequently as the storms. The only unwavering factor in your life is you. You are the rainbow in your storm, even when it feels like you are the storm itself. Life isn't about waiting for the rainbow at the end of the storm or learning to dance in the rain. It's about learning that you were the rainbow in the midst of your storm all along.
